Syberia 1 was the game that got me into adventure gaming. A few months ago, I replayed the first two parts of the series. They are still very lovely, true classics. Thank you Mr. Sokal, rest in peace.

Just saw this this morning… Very sad, he was for me a little like the Hayao Miyazaki of adventure games. His work always inspired me to create my worlds and stories. RIP

That’s a damn shame. I’ve always loved his art style, though in all honesty I never really cared much about his comic books. Another great artist is gone.

Maybe we can do something in honour of Benoît Sokal?

I think we are. Just by mentioning our favorite memories of him and his work.

I remember playing Syberia for the first time. The atmosphere was magical, like entering a whole other world. Every time I booted it up I became absorbed in the snowy landscapes and didn’t leave that mood until I exited the game.

I think we have this nominated for a Mystery Theatre 3000 type CPT.

Wonder what will become of Syberia 4 now, this looked promising.

Thanks diego for the news - a shock.

I loved the fantasy worlds of Amerzone along with Syberia 1 & 2. My personal favourites are Paradise which apart from being a little misunderstood presented a lot of technical difficulties for many players (me included), & also Sinking Island which I think is my favourite.

I’d love to but I think I need to update my graphics card for that one as I have the game but didn’t get very far as I don’t have the right specs.

Yeah, Syberia 4 looks to be a really promising game and as it has been in the works for a good while now, I can only hope Sokal did all he needed to do for the project.

I think the best way to do that is to keep playing his games.

For a creative person or artist the best way to appreciate that person is to keep appreciating his works.

With that in mind, I wonder what’s going to happen to Syberia from now on? Is someone else going to take over, or are they going to create whatever they can from Sokal’s notes, and then when it’s over it’s over.

Who work together on a comic book adaptation of the game, his son Hugo Sokal may continue Syberia saga.

Sad news. I never cared for Syberias as games, but I enjoyed his art and creativeness, and Sinking Island was a pleasant surprise in the mystery genre. I also nominated Amerzone for a community playthrough, maybe we can play it after Fahrenheit to pay him a tribute.

I’d be in for that. Already have the game, but never played it.
