I don’t regard a post by a developer drawing attention to the AGS Awards towards the end of a playthrough dedicated to his game & clearly enjoyed by most of the participants as trolling.

I really wouldn’t want to be involved too much in this discussion, but I’m going to say this.

There is a small, but important difference between:
“Vote for the AGS Awards”
and
“Vote my game in the AGS Awards”.

I don’t know which was the case, and quite frankly I don’t care that much, but informing about some voting and asking for votes are two completely different things.

Obviously “trolling” is a wrong word to describe either scenario, as trolling implies something else entirely.

This is the one & only post that the developer made in the dedicated Kathy Rain thread to mention the AGS Awards. So judge for yourself but all I’ve read so far on the subject I’m afraid, is a petty witch hunt based on a first-time developer’s enthusiasm :

Loving all of the discussions and theories, guys! Smile
Sorry if I go a bit off topic here, but if you enjoyed Kathy Rain, I’d highly appreciate your support in the annual AGS Awards!

The voting just opened, and Kathy Rain has been nominated in eleven categories. We’re up against a formidable opponent in Shardlight, so we’ll need all the help we can get!

Can anyone pinpoint the actual forum rules for me please as I couldn’t find any. Smile

Prior knowledge of the game titles is not required beforehand but as already said you are expected to play through or sample all of the nominated games before casting votes regardless of whether you registered initially because you’d like to acknowledge the merits of a game you’ve just played.
Incidentally, I’m not a member of Joel’s family or even a personal friend. I voted for the game because I was impressed with it & I did vote for other nominated games too.

I don’t regard a post by a developer drawing attention to the AGS Awards towards the end of a playthrough dedicated to his game & clearly enjoyed by most of the participants as trolling.

Here’s what the dev said: Sorry if I go a bit off topic here, but if you enjoyed Kathy Rain, I’d highly appreciate your support in the annual AGS Awards! The voting just opened, and Kathy Rain has been nominated in eleven categories. We’re up against a formidable opponent in Shardlight, so we’ll need all the help we can get!

There’s no denying he was trolling for votes. And only 2 HOURS later you posted: I jumped through all of the (very annoying) hoops on AGS to register & vote for KR (I haven’t played Shardlight yet!) The only category I didn’t cast a vote for KR in was for the music

So much for your statement that you played the nominations before voting. And you voted for Kathy Rain in 10 of the 11 categories.

Next time you feel like accusing me of “insulting” a dev, you’d better think twice.

I wouldn’t use the words “petty witch hunt” if I were you. You’re the one who accused me 4+ times over the years of “insulting” a dev among other things. I’m sure you remember what you did in my last quiz.

@Karlok: Congratulations on successfully digging up something vaguely adjacent to this thread and using it to start and “win” some kind of discussion.

You gain nothing.

Do you have any ideas about this top 100? You’ve mentioned you’re not interested in participating in Aggies and this Top 100, but since you’re posting this much, you might as well contribute something that’s based on more than causing friction for the sake of it.

Okay.  After thinking about it and reading other reactions to TLJ’s question, I feel it’s okay to give anyone who wants to vote a chance to participate, as long as I’m not going to get bombarded with arguments about games like Witcher or Skyrim being adventure games.

Although it’s a good idea, I won’t be able to put this up on our main page, namely because that’s CaliMonk’s area of expertise, and he’s currently up to his proverbials with other things right now.

By the way, games that are part of a series but are still stand-alone games (i.e. Gabriel Knight, Tex Murphy, Syberia) should be listed separately.  However, episodic games that aren’t complete without all the parts (i.e. Kentucky Route Zero), should be listed as one game.  If in doubt, just ask.

Top 100 is a bit much. I started collecting, and ended up being somewhat satisfied with this top 60. Maybe I’ll add the rest later.

There’s tons of great adventures I’ve not yet played, and felt like they’d easily replace anything I’d place on spots 80-100, so I wont force the list to 100.

Some oldie goldies are also missing because I played them when I was a kid and didn’t replay later, so I don’t feel comfortable adding them. All these games are 4+/5 or better. If I add 4/5 games, it will most likely go over 100.

Some games, Such as MYST deserve mentioning just because. Some I’ve played recently, and didn’t like them as much as I first did. MYST stayed. Others got dropped from my list of 48. One game that will raise some eyebrows is the Drawn Trilogy. Even though it was designed by BigFish Studios, I think it’s an adventure at the same level as Emerald City Confidential. The first game, simply titled Drawn made it into the original Top 100 list. If OK then, why not now.

The rest of my truncated list is here.

Amber: Journey Beyond
Agatha Christie: And then there were None
Al Emmo and the Lost Duchman’s Mine
Amerzone

This is a colossal task that Lady K is undertaking. I suggest that we NOT update our lists until the first draft is published. Then, if you want to add a game, or subtract a game, do so then. But don’t confuse what is already a difficult situation.

May I ask for what purpose?

I’ve made a few changes to my list, with the understanding that July 31st will be when Lady K tallies the votes. If I’m only creating difficulties for her I’d happily leave my list alone, though right now I’m finding the continual process of evaluating and re-evaluating my most beloved games to be rewarding.

It’s okay, RT.  I asked Neil to put his titles in alphabetical order.

Charo,
I’m tallying things as I go along.  If you’re making additions or deletions, just make sure you do it in a new post.  I’m saving each person’s list on my computer, so it’s not a big deal to make the changes.
