Return of the Obra Dinn (From the creator of Papers, Please)
From the innovative mind of Lucas Pope comes an upcoming 3D first-person mystery game set on an East Indiaman merchant ship in 1808!
Setup
In 1802, the merchant ship “Obra Dinn” set out from London for the Orient with over 200 tons of trade goods. Six months later it hadn’t met its rendezvous point at the Cape of Good Hope and was declared lost at sea. Early this morning of October 14th, 1808, the Obra Dinn drifted into port with sails damaged and no visible crew. As insurance adjustor for the East India Company’s London Office, find means to board the ship and recover the captain’s logbook for assessment.
Goals
I want to challenge myself so this’ll be a very different game from anything I’ve done before, including Papers Please. There’ll be less creativity with the gameplay and instead I want to experiment with the rendering, story, and a few technical features. Right now I have only a rough idea about the narrative. I’m hoping to capture a compelling mystery with suspense and twists in the limited space of an old merchant sailing ship. It won’t be the typical “collect items and look for clues” structure. There’s a slightly cool gameplay hook but I won’t go into details on that until much later.

Sounds very exciting!
this just jumped onto my most anticipated list!!
Sounds great. Promising!
That’s a really eye-catching graphic.
Definitely a game to watch out for.
Some development updates as Lucas plays with Unity and setting up the game
art style
Graphics rendering remind me of the old Mac computers my class would use in the 5th and 6th grade. Very interesting.

Look at those next gen graphics!
Seriously though, it looks interesting but I’m too sure on the look.
Recently completed: Game of Thrones (decent), Tales from the borderlands (great!), Life is Strange (great!), Stasis (good), Annas Quest (great!); Broken Age (poor)
Im loving the look. I think it takes the retro-style to a new level.
I love the look. Incredibly nostalgic for me, it’s that 80s Mac Plus look that has somehow been passed by the “pixel graphics” movement, until this.
I dig the style. I usually don’t care that much of the archaic 3D look, but this kind of stylished shaded vector look is pretty neat.
How many of the screens will have animations?
This, to me, looks SO interesting… it’s piqued my interest more than many other upcoming projects! I also love “Papers, Please” and I really appreciate the kind of games Lucas Pope is making. It’s just some fun and innovative stuff, but in a very different direction than most.

Demo is out!

just finished the demo… This is shaping up to be as fantastic as i could have hoped!!!
Wow, the style is fantastic, it works very well as a realtime firstperson game.
Piece events and story together and prepare autopsy report.
Thats more Sherlack than Holaymus.
Too little , too effective.
