Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Tuesday 3 July 2012
I don’t know if Fien will choose to pick a 4th-of-July-themed scene tomorrow, but in case she doesn’t, here is (one day early) Tommy Jefferson, from the game that taught me everything I know about the American Revolution.
I’ve never liked DotT and I could write pages upon pages about how much it sucks, but when I replayed a bit of it to get the screenshot, I found it considerably funnier than I remembered. I’ll have to replay it at some point and see how much my opinions have changed.
The Best
DotT is probably The Best adventure game there is.
It sure is The Best AG I have played (I think every game element in DotT is brilliant).
I still live to see a better playability than demonstrated with DotT.
It could always be worse, remember that.

No, Fien will not.
I love DOTT. Voice acting essential. Laverne rules.
Now playing: ——-
Recently finished: don’t remember
Up next: Eh…
Looking forward to: Ithaka of the Clouds; The Last Crown; all the kickstarter adventure games I supported
Hey, speak of the devil! This game is a classic. It was the go-to adventure title that gaming rags would talk about when compiling their “100 greatest games of all time” lists for a while. That would later be surpassed by Grim Fandango, but Day of the Tentacle is still the best to me.
Yeah, brilliant, what else can you say. It’s a full 5 star adventure and I love it even though I’m not that much into comical adventures anymore. DoTT really handled multiple characters well with interesting, fun puzzles, while delivering a wacky story.
Currently Playing: Dragon Age Origins: Awakening
Recently Played: Red Embrace: Hollywood, Dorfromantik, Heirs & Graces, AI: The Somnium Files, PRICE, Frostpunk, The Shapeshifting Detective (CPT), Disco Elysium, Dream Daddy, Four Last Things, Jenny LeClue - Detectivu, The Signifier
One of the greatest AGs ever made, it’s awesome, it’s wacky and it’s a lot of fun!
The truth can’t hurt you, it’s just like the dark: it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark. - Elvis Costello
Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
DoTT surely doesn’t suck, but I always found it kinda over-hyped. In-your-face humour, little to no plot and hours spent in the inventory didn’t quite work for me.

This.
DotT is the best adventure game ever made.
An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

No words to describe the magic of this game.
It’s the reason I love history of the United States. The reason why I’m scared of purple. The reason why I have an urge to paint trees, and why spaghetti never looked the same since (no, wait, that’s Lady and the Tramp’s fault.)

Loved all the time puzzles in this game.
Also there is a 40min video of Tim Schafer playing this on the Double Fine backer forums. Fun stuff.
Waiting for digital version on gog or other service to replay it
Confession:
I have never played DoTT.
*ducks*
Not for lack of interest. Just didn’t get to buy many games when I was younger, and these days I’m trying to catch up on oldies while keeping pace with new games.
Happy July 4th to everyone in the U.S.! (Someone else can post the “alternate” flag. ) DOTT is on my list of all-time favourites. Zany characters, wacky plot, twisted history… I crack up my sister every time with my Wanda impression (“Couch Potato Shopping Channel, Wanda speaking.” )
