Feedback on the new site/forums
Regarding the read/unread post tracking, we hear you, though please give us some time to look into this properly. We only became aware of this a few weeks ago, and all my time recently has gone into fixing bugs and trying to make sure the site wouldn’t explode this weekend. I know this place has been your online home for many years, but also know that I’ve been working on AG stuff regularly till midnight for a while now, so bear with me while we look at things to tackle next.
In the meantime, I suggest using the “go to last post »” link to skip to the end of a thread, and then work backwards. If you’re on the forum often, you will probably only have to scroll back 2 or 3 posts to get where you left off in most cases. (I know that’s not the same as a button that does this for you.)
Regarding smileys not being good enough, it’s difficult to please everyone. I think we found a pretty awesome set of smileys - have a look around on the web for smiley sets and I’m sure you’ll agree we picked something nice.

I’m not sure why a couple of people aren’t seeing the smileys. It’d a weird bug! I can’t figure out why it happens. There isn’t a member-specific ‘turn off smileys’ setting or something.

It is appreciated.
You can play my game Frasse and the Peas of Kejick for free! (AG review here.)

I think it’s a pretty cool set, way more than we had before.
I do miss the “frown” one and the “shifty” a little though.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Cheers. Not sure if there’s an exact :frown: equivalent, though there is a shifty

Marek, thanks for the status report. I have no idea what’s going on with the smileys. So far, at least Fien, tsa and I are affected. Now, I’m not Dutch, tsa is not obnoxious, so I’m not sure what the common factor is. Maybe some unrelated setting that we had in the previous forums, that somehow got imported with the profile and was mistranslated to a hidden pref disabling the smileys?...
.
And now, an unrelated bug report to add to your ever-expanding list: When visiting the Screenshots tab in a game’s page and clicking on a screenshot (nice overlay effect, by the way), you’re taken to the screenshot gallery instead of the actual screenshot. (I wanted to put links to examples, but the software thinks it is spam… How many posts do I need before this stupid thing starts trusting me??)
It seems like changing the link from
http://www.adventuregamers.com/screenshots/view/<game_id>/CI<screenshot_id>
to
http://www.adventuregamers.com/screenshots/view/<game_id>/<screenshot_id>
(i.e. without the CI) should fix the problem.

You’re doing an awfully good job Marek.
Thanks for reporting that. It’s a leftover from a previous implementation - should be fixed now.
I’ve just relaxed the settings on the spam filter - there was no telling how zealous it was going to be until the site actually went live. Let me know if it’s not gotten better.

To those not seeing smileys, if you go to the image location itself, do you see it?
E.g. pasting “www.adventuregamers.com/images/smileys/Not-Amused.png” into your address bar ?
Also please let me know which browser (and version) you’re using as this might help.
Smileys are baked into the html the same as any image, so you’d think they should either display or not display for everyone.

The screenshot thing seems fixed now. Thanks!

I tried it with IE 9, Firefox 12 and Firefox 14 (Aurora), it happens the same. It also happens with a fresh Firefox profile (no cookies, no add-ons…).
However, it only happens when I’m logged in. As soon as I log out, I can see the smileys.
Here’s the HTML I receive when I’m logged out (smileys visible):
<p>Smileys are baked into the html the same as any image,
so you’d think they should either display or not display
for everyone. <img src="/images/smileys/Confused.png" width="18" height="18" alt="Confused" /></p>
and that’s when I’m logged in (smileys replaced with code):
<p>Smileys are baked into the html the same as any image,
so you’d think they should either display or not display
for everyone. :S</p>
It seems to me the problem is server side?

Ah, okay. Done. Thanks.
There’s another thing I noticed, not sure it’s been mentioned already; on the old forums, the thread icon indicated whether I’ve already posted in this thread. I miss this functionality.

You’re right, and I think I found the issue. Can you confirm smileys are visible for you now?

What does the missing “frown” smiley look like? Is it this purple one? () because isn’t that pretty much represented by or ?
