AG Community Playthrough #74 - Still Life
I’d like to suggest that nominations & voting for a new ‘Time for a new community playthrough’ can begin during the concluding part of a playthrough rather than afterwards.
It avoids the urgency to have the thread unpinned before the anticipated scheduled deadline, which in this case would’ve been tomorrow, & before ALL participants have finished & had time to comment if they wish.
Certainly a proposal that made on the TFANCP thread. I would support it. However, while it might be easy to say “OK. We’re starting Chapter 7. I’ll let Lady K know that it’s OK to start a new nomination/vote.”, it might be more difficult when a game has less structure.
I think that will be obvious but otherwise as the saying goes ‘let’s play it by ear’!
I think I’m being considerate. Sylv said on the 9th that she would finish the game that day. Walas said he didn’t know when he would finish the game and asked If I would move things forward.
When I see your SL2 thread, I’ll add my thoughts to that. Otherwise, tacking them onto this thread seemed practical as it keeps the thread open and on the front page for others, sylv, walas, to post their thoughts.
When I was playing Syberia 4 there was no active flash playthrough going on. And it seemed unlikely that there would be three Microids games nominated in a row that would also receive a majority vote. (See Doom’s comments on the playthrough thread.) So I tacked my playthrough of the game onto the end of the game’s review thread. I think that worked out well, as many of those who had played the game were allowed to comment on the various aspects of the game itself. Which they couldn’t otherwise.
For whom the games toll,
they toll for thee.
I will do my best to play chapter 7 tomorrow night.

No Tim, you’re not.
I was a few days away. I will finish the game today, and I am totally o, that you started a new call for a new community playthrough :-)
Sorry, I don’t know when I will be able to finish the game. Please, feel free to start a new CPT.
Neither of these posts express that the posters are finished with the game & merely express no objection to nominations & voting for the next CPT. NOT TO UNPINNING THE THREAD!

Please take you time walas.
OK. You take over everything that was stated/implied about the end of this thread.

It seems that the moderator who unpinned the thread had also interpreted walas’s agreement to voting for a new CPT as the go ahead to do so, so I apologise for my comment.

Accepted. You’re the best.

I gave up with the robot…
Understandable!
Well, I finished the game at last!
My final comments, tomorrow.
I nearly passed the robot puzzle, but it was fried in the last step, and I was too bored by then to try again, so I found a savegame after that puzzle and I managed to reach the end.

For me, the worst part of the final chapter wasn’t even the robot puzzle, but looking for the exacto knife. Close by the jacuzzi? Really? What for? For cutting your wrists?
My theory about Victoria’s killer is Richard. He never phoned Victoria with the list she asked for, he is the one who knows the most about Ackerman, and why Mia would return to her apartment knowing that the killer is after her, unless Richard was with her?
Anyway, I didn’t like the endind for obvious reasons. I guess I will play Still Life 2 to know the answers, even though I have read the interface and inventory management is even worse.
I would give 3,5 stars to the game, for the same reasons someone said before.
PROS:
Great story, superb cinematics, lovely Praga, adult game, graphic details.
CONS:
Clunky interface, some tiresome and absurd puzzles, ending no ending and pixelhunting.
It’s been a pleasure to share this CPT with you all.
See you in another CPT!

I was checking the tool box… why wasn’t it in there?
The real problem with reality is the lack of background music.

Congrats on finishing. (Even if it means you have to get back to the translating. )
I was one up on you with the exzcto. I always carried an exacto and/or a box cutter in my tool box. Great for stripping wires, opening parts boxes, etc. You never know when you’re going to need a sharp edge. I can only assume that Pat was doing some fix-it work on the jacuzzi, which was why the tool box was there.
As to the Richard thing, everyone agrees. But the story gets convoluted here. Richard escorts Mia to her apartment. Then what? He goes home and changes into his Killer outfit, and then returns to Mia’s knocks her and Vic out and kills Vaclav? Then picks Mia up and transports her to the bridge where Vic finds the two of them. (Chicago must be populated by blind people as nobody apparently noticed a guy in outrageous clothes driving around and then carrying an unconscious body around town.) Even though Vic had to wake up at Mia’s, find Mia’s gun, travel to the studio and decipher the picture puzzle, before getting back in her car to find Richard and Mia. Richard could have killed Mia a dozen times before Vic found them. Why didn’t he just kill Mia, change clothes and return to the Studio, where, for the time being, nobody would be the wiser.
The “convolutedness” of some parts of the game is something I would add to your Cons list.
