Indie Games Thread
I’ve spent about 15 hours playing Yooka-Laylee over the past 2 weeks and I can confirm that the critical reception was a little unfair. It’s a legitimately serviceable platformer with a few limitations because of its smaller budget. If a no-name developer made this, it would have been praised much like the recent Rare-inspired indie Snake Pass.
There are only 4 worlds and 1 hub but the worlds are massive with an incredible variety of different challenges that require a mixture of strategies and moves to complete. There are no invisible walls, which encourages exploration, and a clear path for progression that involves finding new levels in the hub world with moves purchased within levels. The camera is pretty dodgy and the arcade minigames are indeed lame but, my god, 2 out of 10 for this game is completely unacceptable from a popular reviewer and hurts careers.
I don’t think a lot people really know what they want. For years, people have been yearning for Rare to return with an open world non-linear platformer with quirky characters and a jamming soundtrack. However, I think these critics only have the tolerance for a straightforward linear platformer like Super Mario 3D World where the pathways are narrow and the secrets are obvious (find 3 coins and a stamp).
IMHO, that mindset is the antithesis of adventure games.

Graphics are dialed back, if you open BK3 pics along with YL you will know what i am talking about
Secondly level design is generic and lifeless, even more than Crash, Spyro or Conker or Banjo of old times
And releasing it in jam packed quality quarter with collectathon mechanic as usp, it was meant to be DoA
I youtubed problems Yooka laylee and vids are plenty
In anycase 2/10 is a joke , its not below 6/10 by any means if zelda can be 10/10
Slain guys making new game, now they can make CV with IGA
Pixel art porn
have somebody tried tokyo 42 already? any opinions?
Last Night Gameplay footage, trippy , best Cyberpunk shit and most wanted indie right now…its a shame that in free society one can shit on anything but these guys who made some serious anti feminist comments are getting so much bad press and wat not
But their loss
Also loving how its using 3D props shit with pixel art, true Flashback sequel
Ashen looks amazing:
Also The Swords of Ditto looks so darn cute:
I’m really glad The Last Night is doing so well (despite all the shit going on in the internet). New trailer is mindblowing.

Yeah its funny too how he was using the plot of online draconian attitude(which is happening to him right now) and gender fluidity in the plot too
I wonder if its same premise
We talk about oppression from Corporate in Cpunk but he was making a future where main oppression came from internet circles
pretty meta stuff
pretty meta stuff
So redneck trucker and white supremacists and anti religion stuff is fine in games
like Farcry5
And diversity agenda is forced like anything like in BGE2 and here is a guy super talented in art makes a premise of future where certain ideology of Feminism won, a certain type of feminism where women are mostly pregnant free and smoking their life away in hedonism while breeding is left to artificial wombs and stemcell
There is more which is also now forced to change on steam page , i mean wtf?
Problem is he has to come on PC gaming show at E3 to apologize and might change story premise above
So oscar said about games cant be like films and books
Well they are far better in gameplay and immersion and stories i always say and believe
But have to accept that when it comes to certain themes , media just filters out many subjects and other mediums are more free
And Gaming industry has become too self censoring for its own progress also biased
Where, “You are free to express and have an opinion” is limited to few subjects
Last night is getting plenty of press and forum debates
Notch(Minecraft) also helping the guy, but neogaf to other circles , these poor guys are
being lynched
I hope that awesome game gets released , i want to soak in that art
on the bright side, at least the game is getting a lot of attention (bad publicity is still publicity). i don’t think this will escalate to a level of plot changes. I read Tim’s tweets and they contain mild to zero offensive content. clever people will ignore the badmouthing. but i feel sad for indie developers in cases like this.
Resogun guys doing it again?
Getting good reviews , voxel porn is back now overhead twin stick shooter, bullet hell
Another day another PS4/PC indie hit
Layden dropped the ball
PushSquare
Nex Machina is everything that an arcade game should be: addictive and accessible yet bursting with hidden depth. Housemarque continues to be the master of the dual-joystick shooter with a sublime effort that harks back to the coin-op glory days of yesteryear. This is a near-perfect complement to the ridiculously good Resogun, and deserves to find a place among your PS4’s hard drive space.

Nex Machina ACG Review
Housemarque never disappoints, I hope they do a Outland sequel someday, my favorite from them, and Super Stardust that was my most played PS3 game until the heavy hitters showed up
Resogun is my favorite Housemarque game. Love the particle effects in it.
