I played this game for the first time last year, what ever the last game released was. I loved it I thought the hour glass time thingy was great, I didnt finish it [it was my nephews and he wanted it back DAMN IT] but I would look at getting the new one.

It looks gorgeous, but I can't shake the feeling that the leads are not Persian enough and the gameplay is too Okami.

Hmm
Loved, LOVED Sands of Time - THAT was a true adventure game in every sense of the word. The direction the series took with the next two games was awful. At least the SoT Prince was believably "arabesque"..this guy, dunno what he is. But that's even a huge quibble - I'm not really looking forward to playing the new game just b/c..it doesn't feel like SoT/classic PoP as far as acrobactics, swashbuckling, etc..

"A lot of the environments in the Sands of Time trilogy were firmly rooted in the aesthetics of traditional Persian palaces and fortresses, and you'll even see some of that in the new game. But the Vale is quite different in its design. There's a wooden, industrial look that replaces the familiar rigid, geometric designs of old. It's described by producer Ben Mattes as a combination of M.C. Escher paintings, Leonardo da Vinci sketches, and the classic adventure series Myst."
That's the code allright.

Myeah it's interesting, but it feels like this is to Sands of Time what Far Cry 2 is to Far Cry 1. That is to say, sequel only in name. If I hadn't played Okami I would probably be able to enjoy this game on its own terms - ie as something other than Prince of Persia - but the banishing darkness thing has just been done and the new PoP doesn't seems to explore it any deeper beyond adding acrobatics...
I feel bad being so cynical about the game but the more I learn about it (double jumps, literal 'guide lines' telling you where to go, weird magic trampolines, generic American action-hero protagonist) the less I want to play it. |

Will there be a demo? I doubt this one will run on my computer.

I don't remember that they announced it coming out for the PC. I might be mistaken though.

I did not notice screen tearing and this game is the best looking PS3 game I have ever seen. Too bad, they have reduced the difficulty to the extent that my mom can finish it without breaking a sweat.

I read in the escapist review that it plays like one long quick time event where the only button you have to press is (X) over and over again in sequence.
Is that for real? They loved it over there but I wonder just how rewarding that can be for a platformer fan? I tried the DS version last week and it has serious control issues, adopting a similar one click to everything approach. It suffers terribly for it because they went with all stylus controls which are imprecise at the best of times. Its also been rushed to match the main console release with serveral areas suffering significant frame rate issues. Still it has the flavour of classic POP 2D of old. |

I've read that there will be a PC-version released in the next couple of days. Haven't heard anything about a demo though. Assassin's Creed didn't get one so my hopes of being able to try it out are low.

It looks intriguing, and I like the art direction. I've often thought that a more illustrated look using cel shading would look great in a direct control game. Oddly, I got the idea from Alphonse Mucha and from Jordan Mechner's The Last Express. Nice to see I wasn't the only one thinking it. The game might be a little too action-oriented for me, but I might still try to get my hands on it.
Side note: I've had Sands of Time for years and still haven't played it. I really do need to sit down and finish my backlog of games. |

Game is looks good as the aa it gets ,aa more important than any 3d games coz of black contours if you cant run with decent aa and resolution that effects visuals drastically.
Scenario starts pretty cliche same like sot and prince sounds like yankee doodle doo this time.

It seems the voice actor for the prince is the same as Nathan Drake from Uncharted which is about as un-Persian as you can get.
Not that a British accent (Sands of Time) is really especially more Persian, but at least Brits can get away with sounding ancient. Certainly, what the Prince of Persia is not is a wise-cracking all-American action hero... Last edited by Ninja Dodo; 12-13-2008 at 02:18 PM. |
