Thats a great point. These days with on demand ppv's and online porn I don't think that dvd distribution is such a huge economic distribution point as VHS once was.

If bluray could get Girls Gone Wild then every frat house in the bloody country would own a ps3.

So the rumble is back, in some form. Do you think that will have much of the impact on PS3's sales? Will Microsoft also introduce the motion sensing to their standard controllers? Should they bother?

Nope. Lets not overestimate the 'value' of rumble with regards to the actual purchase; its not an option that is a deal breaker with or without. It only becomes an issue when people 'miss' it when playing.

Since motion sensing so far in the PS3 seems to be truly "gimmicky" at best (unlike the Wii)...and this is speaking purely from an execution standpoint, not technology...its up to the developers to do interesting things with it...anyway, MS's only competition is the Sixaxis in that regard (Wiimote is dedicated technology unlike the ancillary motion sensing in an otherwise fully functioning 'standard' controller), MS shouldn't be compelled to IMHO.

On a side note, I played with those controllers that have fans in them cooling your hands, and that is a surprisingly pleasant feeling.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Feb's NPD report

From Kotaku

TOTAL HARDWARE SALES

DS - 485,000
Wii - 335,000
PS2 - 295,000
360 - 228,000
PSP - 176,000
GBA - 136,000
PS3 - 127,000
NGC - 24,000

From 1up

Hardware Sales Reactions: Sony: "According to NPD data, February 2007 showed a 67% increase in retail dollars generated year-over-year for SCEA in the US with total sales of $377 million. With this increase, the PlayStation brand remained the number-one revenue driver for the month in the industry owning 38.5% of total sales. On the retail front, SCEA continues to work hard to stabilize supply for PS3 and PS2 across North America. A short month was reflected in PS3 and PSP sales figures over January, while PS2 continues to perform above expectations, down just 4.3% from last year. PS2 dominated software sales for the industry, generating $111 million in revenue.

Stabilize supply? Short month?!?

If by stabilize they mean making sure people dont realise just how many are sitting on shelves and in back rooms, perhaps...

...and really come on, they're using the excuse that Feb being 2 - 3 days shorter as being impactful on the final tally? M'kay...

Cheers

We're saving our strength for the inevitably fabulous European launch.

Off-topic, does anybody else miss Nolan Bushnell being in the business? Every time I see the guy - and I've been seeing a lot of him lately, most recently in an interview on GameTrailers - a great sense of loss peppered with gleeful nostalgia sweeps over me.

Well keep in mind, these numbers are just North America, so good or bad in Europe, its still very bad here. But agreed, we'll save our energies for a good full round after Europe, hehe.

As for Bushnell...the one thing that rubbed me the wrong way was his comment about Ralph Baer...Bushnell completely dismissed Baer as having any impact on the games industry, going so far as to call him a nusance. Not good form, when for the most part you're still sitting up there as one of the major individuals to help maintstream videogaming. He could have been diplomatic at the very least, even if he had hard feelings about the whole situation.

As for loss, no. Nostalgia, absolutely, and I see great value in it. People dismiss nostalgia but in fact, if you are old enough to remember where we came (in gaming), its really a rather remarkable perspective and I love it.

Wow, talk about the slacking off around here!

I'm going to be brief and not cut and paste and link to this as its EVERYWHERE...

..but in brief...

Devil May Cry 4, which Capcom insisted was a PS3 exclusive (vehemently denying the rumors from months ago)...is indeed now coming to the 360 the same day as the PS3 release, and also for the PC later on.

Monster Hunter 3 is now also on the 360...

...and Ace Combat 6.

Next up, the long, long rumored MGS4.

Cheers

And there's no mention of the PS3 version of Ace Combat 6 in this week's Famitsu.

So MGS4, FFXIII, FF Vs. XIII and Tekken 6 are pretty much all that's left (apart from Ninja Gaiden Sigma, but that's a remake). I agree, MGS4 is surely the next to go multiplatform.

Why am I not surprised you're the first one to bring this up?

Now with the imminent European release, there's even a PS3 article in our current TV program magazine for cripe's sake. "On top of being a gaming system, it's the cheapest Blueray, yadda yadda." Still, I pity you fools. Cause clearly:

I win, you lose.

Doesn't matter, the info's been circulating all over the gaming communities these past several days. It will retail for USD $475 and will include an HDMI cable (you hear that, Sony cheaptards?).

Personally I find the black colour to be pedestrian. The white one showcases the form of the box and it looks lighter and not stereotypically gadgety.
