I got it. I think it's an updated version. Kind of The Lost Coast quality. It definitely looks good.
Only played the intro level. Like any Half-Life game, it has a great start! This one is action packed! |

I kind of want to wait till I (maybe) get a better computer...although the Source engine is very good about looking great on midrange systems. I'll at least wait till I'm done with Bloodlines.

I just bought this game and it is pure awesomeness. I had to force myself away from the computer. Valve are the king of game design, no contest.
What is amazing though, is this game looks better than most of the other games out there, and yet it runs smooth as silk on my 6800 GT. Source is such an awesome game engine.

As Wilco mentioned, it's definitely a few steps up on the original Source engine used in HL2, with the most noticeable addition being HDR lighting.
Whilst I appear to be experiencing minor stability issues with the game, I have to agree that the performance to hardware ratio is truly exceptional. I'm stunned that I'm able to run full HDR and 2x anti-aliasing on an AGP 6800 video card and still run the game beautifully. Hats off to Valve for that. |

Yeah, I was wondering about the longevity of the gameplay.... 5-6 hrs.... not sure if that warrants my getting it even if it's about 20$.
Any one know offhand how many Episodes there will be? I was about to pick this one up today but the same thought occurrred to me about SiN Episode 1: Emergence; the latter game will be a total of 6 Episodes so I'm assuming each release will sell for about 20$ dollars retail. For gameplay that's about 5-6 hrs, well for me personally, I can't justify myself buying each one for in the end I'd be paying about 120$ (plus taxes) when all is said and done. |

They've only mentioned three episodes so far, I think.

and trust me, in this case, this is definitely 20 dollars well spent. These 6 hours are better than a lot of other hours spent in other games.

If you think about it, that's not a bad deal. Valve and everyone else has been saying, 4-6 hours. So let's say on avergae gamers will beat it in 5 hours. Three episodes, so 15 hours for the whole thing. That's the length of a regular action game. And for $60, that's only 10 more than a normal game. But you have to remember that by being episodic Valve improves the game with each episode, which isn't possible in "normal" games, not to mention that you're getting fed the game gradually instead of having to wait a year for the whole thing. So the extra $10 is jusitified.

I finished Episode 1 last night, and loved it. I think Valve managed to improve on just about everything. They seem to have stepped up the AI a little (although I've been spoiled by F.E.A.R) and the graphical wizardry was jaw-dropping. I loved the reactor core in Chapter 2.
Replaying with the commentary track at the moment. Can't wait for Episode 2, and the teaser is intriguing. It gives the impression that there'll be some action in natural terrain with foliage, ridges etc - that'd be quite a shift in gameplay. |

Yeah Just finished it today. It is brilliant, even better than Half Life 2.
Watching the episode 2 trailer, I am drooling all over. Man it will be sick if we get to actually play outdoors in that alien planet.

*Shock*
No "$20 for 4-6 hours of gamplay, What a rip-off" posts. Must have used them all up in the Bone threads.

Besides, we're still on Earth, assuming you're referring to the last shot of the EP2 teaser, in which I wholeheartedly agree. It will be wonderful to be able to stretch out a bit in broad daylight with nary a dark level to be found! Cheers |
