Besides, we're still on Earth, assuming you're referring to the last shot of the EP2 teaser, in which I wholeheartedly agree. It will be wonderful to be able to stretch out a bit in broad daylight with nary a dark level to be found!

Cheers
Spoiler:
Do you think that the green forest were all these dog like creatures were running in the trailer is on earth? I was thinking it might be on Xen, and that both Gordan and Alyx are teleported there at the end of game 1.

Well a few points.

Spoiler:
  • Xen in HL1 was clearly alien, with no similarities to Earth. Of course Valve could change this, but I think the ambiguity would be rather confusing.

  • Secondly, Xen wasn't well received, so even if just to avoid the stigma of a "Xen Level" for this series.

  • Thirdly, there's no strong narrative reason yet to go to Xen. Going to the homeworld would imply a confrontation with the powers that be; a finality along the lines of "lets finish this once and for all.

  • Alyx's father (in the EP2 trailer)says as much that its "time to take back our world", so we're simply not at the "lets go get them at THEIR world" yet.

  • Ultimately, every shot in the EP2 trailer is clearly on Earth, starting with the establishing shot of a smouldering City17 seen from an evergreen forest. The newer agile Striders running around is no different than the older lumbering Striders hanging about the city proper in HL2. Remember that there are still a mess of Combine left behind having lost communication with their homeworld; there's still much to do here on Earth.

Cheers

Xen wasn't awful at all, you, you... you Xenophobe!

Seriously, though, I think Xen sections were just as good as the rest of the game. What I'd like to find out is what happened to Adrian Shephard, the guy you played in Opposing Force.

I was about to allow you the opinion UNTIL you said:

"...just as good as the rest of the game."

...then I know you have to be kidding or have a primo crack stash somewhere.

Dude, even Valve recognizes its craptacularness. If anything, it sucking is a Communal-Hive-Mind-HL-Fan-Opinion. Its akin to saying the sky is blue...yes, everyone for the most part agrees the sky is blue.

Saying you liked Xen or didn't mind Xen is one thing. Claiming its just as good as the WHOLE of HL is like saying a kid on a bike tied to a tree can beat my vette in a race.

COME ON INSANE!!!! Thats....thats....INSANE!!!

Hehe.

Do you know what i just realized? Episode one was HL2 backwards: it statred in the citadel and ended on the train. That's funny.

Spoiler:
Simply not possible.

A huge part of the plot to Episode One revolved around the fact that the Combine forces remaining on Earth are *stuck* there, and they have to pretty much destroy the Citadel just to get the Important Transmission out.

There's no way any kind of teleportation to Xen happened. The screen just went white because the citadel went kablooey.

There was a lot of fun little detail in HL2:EP1 that I loved so much.

Mostly it was stuff that Valve added for Alyx, all that comedic small talk and such was so great.

Some new info on episode 2. Sounding sweet, although I wish Valve would for once stick to their schedule.

Quote:
The newest issue of PC Gamer has plenty of new details on the second downloadable episode for Half-Life 2. New weapon (Strider buster), new locations (missile silos, forrests, minefields), new vehicles, more complex physics puzzles, new gravity gun mode, new multiplayer mode and more open battles with large amount of enemies. Unfortunately the article also states that Half-Life 2 : Episode 2 is scheduled for spring 2007, if this is accurate then that means several months delay from its original date.

Sounds good. I like the that they're adding some significant new elements this time. But Spring 2007? Damn.

I think I preferred Valve's "when it's done" schedule. At least there was less unfulfilled expectation.

So there's the truth

Worry not, it's still on schedule.

But I bet they'll delay it at least a little.

EDIT: That Kolzig is one lightning fast fella. And he shoots lasers from his eyes!

Finished this last night. I don't mean to beat a dead horse but it really was awesomely designed. Even more intense than HL2. And the ending, despite the cliffhanger, was awe-inspiring. Just based on HL2 and this Valve is quickly becoming one of my favorite developers, even though I'm not really an FPS fan.
