----- Edit: I'd like also to add that I don't automatically hate sequels of course, I'm just tired to play the kind of games that add nothing to the original formula and are just plain boring or, worse, add things that nobody ever asked for (NFSU 2 for example). That said I would have loved to play a sequel to Sam & Max, but I would have loved the same a new original adventure.

Either Half-Life 2 or Vampire Bloodlines.

I think I'm the only person in the world who thinks Red Dead Revolver was the best game of the year, but I do. HL2, GTA, and MGS3 may all have polish that RDR doesn't have, but RDR is just pure old school fun in a Western setting. If there's any game that feels like Contra in 3D, it's RDR, and it does it perfectly. I play games to be entertained, and RDR did that for me the most this year.

Well I'd like to say The Moment of Silence, but I think I had even more fun with Vampire:TMB, before that Half-Life 2 blew me away but Vampire has even more going for it, and although Valve did a great job immersing the player in the game, Troika succeeded even better in that aspect.
Let's hope next year there will be no doubt left as to whether an adventure game deserves that title |

I didn't buy a lot of new games this year (I don't count my Ebay crusades for classic adventure games).
So I bought: Def Jam: FFNY (PS2) DTM Race Driver 2 (PS2) GTA San Andreas (PS2) Half-Life 2 (PC) And the winner is: Half Life 2! It's the game I've been playing the most, so that should say enough. (I'm still stuck with a VERY stupid drive motor cycle next to train and kill all people on roof of train mission in GTA SA, so I just gave up. Bleh!) The second place goes to Def Jam FFNY, simply because I was a bit addicted to it (Finished it in a day). And it's fun to beat up your little brother. --Erwin

Best Game Shadow Hearts Covenant
I was totally frustrated with Final Fantasy - even the walk throughs I could barely figure out.
I got Shadow Hearts Covenant and it was challenging and made me think without getting furious and throwing the controller across the room. Some way whacked out scenes (Man Challenges and what happens to the loser) but that is what I liked. It was like some stuff made it through any censoring. D8L8BR8 |
