I just tried to grab the games that were acclaimed high by a lot of magazines. Obviously there are much more games than the ones on the list, and I might have missed a good game or 2, but these pretty much are the ones that were universally acclaimed. They range from above average to brilliant. Now who wants to ask me now why fight club was not on the list

Anyway, since SD is refusing to add Syberia 2 to the official candidate list, here's my write-in vote for Syberia 2 as the best game of 2004. |

Btw, can I include TrackMania? It was released in some parts of the world last year, but didn't get worldwide release until this year. I've played it more than any other game this year, so it's my favourite.. either that, or I declare it to be the best game of 2003. |

Syberia 2 isn't as good as Syberia, IMO. But that doesn't mean it's like "a boring chick flick." (I'm not even going to go into the levels of misogyny, but I mean, if you want to broaden the audience for AGs, one way NOT to do it is to start throwing around labels like "boring chick flick.") There were amazing moments in that game. Oscar was great. The puzzles were a lot better. The artwork was awesome. Kate needed someone to talk to besides a freakish old fogey and a quest that had more at stake in it, I think. But otherwise, it had a lot of good points. As far as AGs go, it seems by far the best to me, though I haven't played TMOS. Since it's not out in the US should we count it or not? Is it like an Eminem song that will show up on the Grammys two years running because Eminem is that wiley? |

Anyway, wanna hear a secret? Come in close, I'll whisper it in your ear. I'm goddamn tired of playing sequels All those titles you told me are sequels, and a remake of a very old, although very good, game. And I'm frankly looking for something original, something new and exciting, and I wouldn't call none of those titles like that. What is a good game for me? Hmm, I could tell you hundreds, like From Rags to Riches, Sacred Armour of Antiriad or Mancopter, but what good would it be? I played too many old titles when I was young, and I usually look for games that can amuse me like those old ones. But this year wasn't a particularly good one for that, that's why I spent hundreds of dollars on old videogames, I had to refresh my memory. A game of the year has to be good, not the 'lesser pain of the year', if you catch my drift (and understand my poor english ).

Half-Life 2. Such a polished singleplayer experience means a lot to me, I really enjoyed my time with the game. The SDK is another nice bonus which I intend to play around with.
Myst IV and World of Warcraft are also close runner-ups. Less close are Ninja Gaiden (Hard as nails) and Pirates!.
