How about adding some AGs to the list? Syberia 2 and SH:SE both came out in 2004 and may get some votes. |

Can't stand FPS and stealth action games and I'm not much into sports games either. That doesn't leave a lot of games to consider. |

The question is a little tricky. When you say "best game," are you asking for people's personal favorites or for the best made game? Because on a technical level, I would probably go with a game like Half-Life 2 or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. But Syberia II is still my favorite.

The only new game I have played this year is Silent Hill 4 so I am underqualified to answer this question.

I also haven't played much from that list, but from what I have played, MGS3 wins. However, I haven't played Half-Life 2, Myst 4, or any of those. But soon it will be christmas...

Not sure I did a very good job defining it there, but I think you get the idea. It's the difference between a game that's well made and a game that's just fun. A game can have hideous design flaws and still be fun. I realize that Syberia II was by no means the best made game of the year, but I still had a lot of fun playing it. And that's why it's my personal favorite. On the other hand, if I had to pick the best game ever made from a purely objective, technical point of view, I'd probably go with something like StarCraft. It's just a solid game. But it's still pretty far from being my personal favorite, partly because I'm not much of a real time strategy gamer. Quote:

I have spent most of the year playing old adventure games (over 50 of them), so I have only played 3 games from 2004:
The Egyptian Prophecy Syberia 2 SH: Secret of the Silver Earring I liked them in that order. Syberia 2 is technically a better game than TEP, but Syberia 2 is to games what The English Patient is to movies. Despite winning an Oscar, the latter is nothing but a boring chick flick. Likewise, Syberia 2. Silver Earring was one of the worst games I have played in a long time, mainly because there wasn't really any playing involved... I do own a bunch of action and other titles from the year (Doom III / Vampire:Bloodlines / Silent Hill 4 and more), but I have been waiting until I upgrade my computer to play them. I will be buying an SLI rig when the nForce 4 boards hit the market, so I will be an action whore for a while when that happens. I also pirated HL2 out of spite. I haven't decided if I will actually play it yet though. Regardless, Valve will never get a penny from me again. (Although I guess they did for Vampire. LOL). Well, I won't pay for any game that requires an internet connection for single player anyway... |

I played Myst IV, so I pick that one. But Vampire: The Masquerade-
Bloodline looks to be better. |
