Default Grim Fandango in Painkiller?

So a while back I finally got around to beating Painkiller, and in one of the last levels, the Docks, there's a huge cargo ship sitting in the water.

Written on the side of the ship is a very familiar name: S. S. Lambada

I have to say, that's one of the coolest cross-genre references I've ever seen.

That's cool. Got a screenshot?

There isn't one online that I can find. I'll try to take a screenshot later.

My mistake. It doesn't say "Lambada," it says "Lumbago." Which is even better, actually, because then we can make Lumbago Lemonade.

Here's a screenshot that I took, too. It was pretty dark, so I boosted the contrast and brightness so you could read it better. Painkiller generally doesn't take place in the middle of the day.

Sad Seeing the ship from Grim in another game set (vaguely) in the afterlife would have been ... neat.

It's not the Lambada, but it's a ship from Grim. It's the little one that Dockmaster Velasco is putting together in the bottle.

Cruise ship: Lambada
Manny's Ship: Limbo
Ship in the Bottle: Lumbago
Cargo Ship: LaMancha

Wow CR you sure know your Grim trivia

By the way, has anyone noticed that the sound that plays when you first turn on HL2 (when the valve logo is on the screen, the guy with a valve in his eye), is the same sound as the one used in the first scene of Full throttle. If you have both games, try playing both, and observe the similarity.

Cool!
You're sure Lumbago isn't a regular name for a ship, though?

I think a "lumbago" is actually a condition when you have lower back pains. I don't think it would be a very common name for ships, then.

Thanks DC, I knew lumbago was a medical term, but I wasn't sure what it was exactly!

Besides, even if it WAS a somewhat common name for ships, I think finding ships with the same name in two games based in the afterlife would be a bit too much of a coincidence.

Ah, I didn't know it was set in the afterlife.
Still very, very cool.

I played through the whole thing, but I think I was too disgusted to notice such details... I suppose it does make the game slightly less retarded, though.
