That's misinterpreted. In the original article they were talking about (projected) revenues from GTA 4 episodes.

eh, I don't know if this belongs here ?

But anyway:

Piranha Bytes (Gothic Games) has gotten a new publisher.

Deep Silver, a division of Koch Media is the new publisher for PB's games.

Here's the press release:

http://www.worldofpiranha.de/

The press release is in English as well as in German...

Note that Deep Silver published the adventure game:
Secret Files: Tunguska

I see. I guess that the guys at Kotaku then misinterpreted the earnings conference call. Do you have a link to the original article?

Here. This is the relevant part:

Quote:
Evan Wilson - Pacific Crest Securities

Could you give us the headcount for total Take-Two right now?

Lainie Goldstein

2,100 employees.

Evan Wilson - Pacific Crest Securities

Thank you. And as it relates to the deferred revenue chunk associated with the episodic content on X-Box 360, you can see that $25 million of that moved into short-term deferred. Could you give us any sense of when that’s going to hit the P&L? Will we see $25 million at one time and then the second 25 or will it be a slow bleed?

Lainie Goldstein

The first 25 is for the first episodic content package that’s supposed to go out and that is in March of ’08. That’s why it moved into current because it’s in the next 12 months. The second 25 will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal ’08.

Cool thanks for the link. From what I understood from this is that this 25 million is in fact revenue (no where is the word projected written there). But they never mentioned anything about MS paying them either. It could be that MS is paying them in 2 payments, and it could be that like you inferred, it is projected revenue.

The part of that is probably what Microsoft has paid them, but do you really believe anyone would pay $50 million for two downloadable episodes? Like I've been saying since the rumor appeared, Microsoft could invest that money into an exclusive game that would probably dwarf GTA 4 in production values. It would make no sense. GTA is big, but it's not that big. Hell, Halo 3 probably didn't cost that much to make.

Everything gets blown out of proportion on gaming blogs.

GTA was THE biggest console game in terms of sale last generation. It overshadowed Halo, and all the other games released for all consoles. It is definitely a system seller, and you don't want Sony to have an edge on you with that franchise. Anyway, right now we are speculating if we suggest how much they did or did not pay them.

That's fine, so are gaming websites and they're publishing those speculations as facts.

EDIT: This is also interesting, seems like PSN might not remain free forever. In the last episode of Bonus Round Sony's director of PSN operations also refused to confirm PSN would remain free.

BBFC bans Manhunt 2

When you consider that the BBFC has only ever rejected one game before - the original Carmageddon - this is fairly significant news. Of course, it could still be overturned, and it will have generated wonderful publicity for Rockstar if it does.

Wow. That is pretty significant. I don't know anything about the game, but I remember reading that Manhunt was pretty hard to sit through.

Still, I don't support this kind of censorship, even if I would inevitably hate myself and the world while playing the game.

Though Manhunt was probably the most tasteless game I have ever tried to play, I am still a strong opposer of banning its sequel. I don't like governments playing baby sitters.

I heard the first one was really good, though. It's a damn shame this is happening.

But surely people in the UK can buy Manhunt 2 on ebay from other countries in the PAL region?

And in the US, they basically killed the game commercially before it was even released by tagging it with an AO rating (that means walmart and Target won't hold the game). http://kotaku.com/gaming/adults-only/manhunt-2-rated-adults-only-270337.php

Heh, just today, I read a letter to the editor about violent video games (actually it referenced the Sony vs. CoE thing). It claimed that we know with 100% certainty that wars are bound to damage people (I guess psychologically), and therefore violent virtual games even more so.

In more important news, Spore has been "delayed indefinitely" according to Game Informer.

And Nintendo and Sony have refused to allow the game to be released in the US.

Basically, it's dead.

Wow, just wow... Do you know what that Bioware DS game is? A Sonic RPG!

This could be really good.
