You do absolutely have a point, though. The last thing I'd want is to wear my fetish on my sleeve. It's like those ultra-shallow gay guys in the online social sites who go by names like Abercrombie&Fitch_boi or D&G_hottie. I think, yeah I'd date you because you associate yourself with some extremely expensive fantasy life.

Anyway, current news is that the PS3 isn't doing that well in many of the stores across the North America. Reports from our fellow gamers (at sites like Blues News, Joystiq, and Kotaku) are coming in of large chains like Best Buy unable to sell the 3 or 4 units they have in stock. Partly it's 'cause there are next to no games for it. Even the eBay and craigslist scalpers are trying to return their booty because they can't fetch a profit anymore from reselling.

Jan. 4, 2007 — Though images of electronics stores adorned with snaking lines of pimply faced teenagers, desperate parents and eager technophiles searching for an elusive Sony PlayStation 3 blanketed the Internet before the holidays, the high-tech, high-priced video game console may no longer be so hard to find.

Blogs, recently filled with stories of gamers on the hunt for PS3s, are now littered with accounts of stockpiles of the machines uncovered at major retailers. Even scalpers have returned machines they picked up before the holidays to sell on Web sites like eBay but failed to unload.

"I certainly haven't been to every store in the country, but anecdotally it's an issue," said Brian Crecente, editor in chief of gaming blog Kotaku.com. Crecente photographed a large stack of PS3s for sale at a major U.S. electronics retailer just after the holidays.

Crecente, who believes Sony's PlayStation 3 is a powerful system that's capable of offering a great experience, agreed with Davison's assessment [that Sony will not be leading the console war this year].

"I would say Microsoft [will be the winner]," he said. "Sony is not winning — that's easy to say — there have been so many missteps. Nintendo has a tremendous amount of buzz, but Microsoft has really taken advantage of the year's head start."

Just curious, where are these pictures taken, because every single place I go, (and I've been to target, best buy, circuit city, fry's, EB Games and Gamestop) to look for a wii, I don't find a PS3. On the other hand, there is always a stack of 360's lying around.

Previously, we ran photos of unsold PS3s in Tokyo. To shed more light on the situation, here's a collection of photos taken at retailers in Osaka's Den-Den Town. The area is Osaka's gaming and electronics district, and these pictures were taken at retailers like Sofmap, Big Tiger, Super Potato, a-Too and even 7-11. (Yes, 7-11 in Japan sells video game consoles.) The above pic is from Sofmap, and the sign says the Wii and the DS Lite are sold out; they have PS3 units in stock. A cocktail of high price, bad press and lackluster titles might be driving customers away. Expect sales to pick up as new games start to flesh out the line-up. As the bloggers stated at other times, its not conclusive, but they're able to walk to major electronics stores and find PS3's but no Wii's or that damned DS. I dont know, but that says an awful lot to me...

I think that one was taken at a Best Buy. According to many first hand reports from posters on Kotaku, Joystiq, Blues News, and various gaming sites and mainstream sites reporting on this, it's been consistent at many stores across the country (including Circuit City, Gamestop, Walmart, and Target) that it's next to impossible to find Wiis for sale but there are at least several PS3s available. Most customers inquire about the Wii.

One reason, I think, the PS3 isn't selling as much is because there are very few games currently launched for it. Of course, the main reason is that it's way too expensive for parents and other casual gamers, especially when compared to the really cheap and friendly Wii.

Well I believe the "Zephyr" is indeed coming, and as long as I'm offered the 120 gig drive as a separate purchase, my only opinion is that while it may look bad to us early adopters, its good for the system.

I dont believe the PS3 minus BluRay at all. That would be tantamount to acknowledging defeat. Consider the logistics too of having games made on BluRay and those on DVD9; that would splinter the market pretty significantly.

Well, we've all known larger hard drives and cooler processors would be coming eventually so the only real issue remains the HDMI port. And since this hasn't been officially confirmed yet, we have no idea how Microsoft will handle it.

Why are you making such a big deal out of it? You certainly don't give me the impression of being a "30 year old gamer". Just to counter your "fanboy" ideas. I'm a European Linux user who likes the XBOX 360. So there

All my frustrations are gone.. finally.
Anyway, hope to see more adventure games on the next-gen consoles.

These gaming blogs like Kotaku or Joystiq are kind of empty. I mean they are entertaining to read sometimes, but they put so much junk over there that suddenly look like official news over the net.

Concerning the Zephyr, if that's true, I get the 120Gb disk, the X360 really needs more space with all the new services coming... But the 1080p? They suddenly realized it was important? Next thing they will say it has a HD-DVD drive...

PS3 without Blu-ary doesn't make any sense... All the games are Blu-ray
