What was actually moving in that trailer?
I can still remember the trailer of Grim Fandango, it was truly remarkable.

I turned the music off. Didn't fit at all, plus I like that song and I didn't want to associate it with Gears of War. I have a really annoying habit of getting images burnt into my skull of whatever I was seeing or thinking when a song was playing. So if it's something stupid, I'm stuck with it.
I prefer the ending of Donnie Darko over 'evil bugs must die'. Oh and Fincher is awesome. Use soap. Last edited by Ninja Dodo; 10-28-2006 at 02:45 PM. |

I was a huge fan of Fincher, but now I see the light.
Thanks Spiwak.

Anytime, folks. I'll be here all week.
But seriously, I've already talked enough about why I don't like David Fincher both directly and indirectly.

What the hell is this. Wow. The music makes it seem like some shitty fan video put on YouTube, right on the same level as "here's my montage of favorite Starbuck moments from Battlestar Galactica set to music by Linkin Park".
Sorry, but slapping music from a well-known soundtrack of a mediocre film onto a totally unrelated game isn't working, at all. How much did David Fincher have to do with it? |

Of course You tube have remixed the trailer with everything from "Electric Avenue" and Coldplay to Megadeath

Wow - I really disagree, I think its brilliant. The song is beautiful and set to a scary, dark, actiony backdrop. Caught MY attention.
I think it works because it IS so different. And that boss monster is mad creepy. |

The game footage isn't bad at all. The gimmicky use of "Mad World" in it is what bothers me. First off, it's not a very professional effort. Seems more like the work of a YouTube editing amateur that caught some funny coincidences in the lyrics of the song and the footage he was given and decided to run with it. I think it would be so much better if you could hear the action but faintly, under the music; as it is I get very...uncanny...vibes watching the scene with no sound but the music. On top of that, the song itself blows and always has blown. It isn't touching or inspired, just melodramatic and depressing. Basically what it amounts to is a fairly pretentious trailer that, if it does succeed, does so by the merits of the game footage alone and not the editing of the trailer itself.
I guess it represents the continuing fascination the games industry has with becoming "cinematic."

I thought the same thing. It just needs some sound other than the song.

No no no... Not having any additional sound is exactly what makes it good. The only wonky part is the street-running sequence, music doesn't really fit with that, but the rest of it is fine.
