Hold on I thought it was gyroscope thingys inside the wiimote that senses the movement not where the wiimote is being pointed...

Virtual boy aside, Nintendo have always known exactly what they were doing.

The benefit of the doubt => Nintendo.

I was reading a GameSpot hands-on for the Wii, specifically about the controller, and two things that I thought were worth mentioning. Firstly, BobC had this to say about it's problems:

In the meantime, the screen goes crazy and constantly spins you around or points you in one direction, not unlike an optical mouse that's going haywire. This issue came up more than a couple of times during my 10 minutes or so playing Metroid. When the sensors are locked in, the aiming and action with the remote and nunchuk work just fine. But the casual and non-gamers that Nintendo is supposedly trying to attract with this device may become frustrated if the kinks aren't worked out of the remote sensor.

It should also be noted that most of the editors are finding it very fun for the games that were specifically designed for it. Most of their complaints are more involved with getting used to the system. Except for BobC's, which was why I posted it.

I heard similar complaints from other editors as well. But others said it's very responsive and loved it a lot. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, it's pretty weird- half the guys who've played it say it's flawless, the other half say it's completely messed up. Then there are people who say the problem is just calibration, so with the final version there won't be a problem. Since Nintendo has never led me wrong before with control, I'm inclined to believe the third group.

Ironically, now Nintendo are apparently cool, suggest Sony and Microsoft.

Yes, but it hadn't been mentioned at all in this thread. Luckily, now it's mentioned two times.

I still would like to see blood though in Red Steel. I can understand how they want to appeal to a wider crowd, but not having blood in a game where you slice people with your swords is a little too extreme in my opinion.

I don't know, I never missed blood in Morrowind, for instance (or was there blood in Morrowind?). A lack of blood never bothered me and I rarely notice it.

Yea but that's Morrowind. This is a game about Yakuza gangsters. Blood is an essential ingredient.

Well if they want to brush off the kiddy image, they have to start tailoring a little bit to the older crowd. I am not talking about violence for violence's sake, but come on, what kind of realism is there, when you slice someone with a sword and you don't see any blood? Especially for a game called Red Steel.

It's the same in Soul Calibur and many other games so it's not just Nintendo.

I don't find blood really worth complaining about. I never notice a lack of blood, but I do notice too much blood.

Looks like I have to eat my words in regard to Metroid Prime 3.

IGN has an interview with some guys from Retro. First of all, they say that it will be almost as focused on exploration as the previous two, which is a huge relief. The player, thankfully, will not fly the ship. And while I still think splitting the game into planets is a big mistake, it sounds like the motives are story-based (so I can't argue). But what really convinced me that they haven't lost their way is that there will be no multiplayer! Yay! After all that talk a year ago about how they would make a giant online multiplayer FPS out of it, this is great news.

I dont get this attitude atall...

Multiplayer = losing their way?

You know if they added multiplayer it doesnt necisseraly mean the whole game would have completely changed...

True, but the fact that they're not focusing on multiplayer tells me that their priorities are straight. If they were approaching this as a FPS, they would spend a lot of time on multiplayer because that's what's expected from a FPS. But they're not putting in multiplayer at all, which tells me they're still approaching this as they have in the past.
