I just finished playing Max Payne on the X-Box a few days ago, and it is definitely one of the best action games I've ever played. I got it at Game X-Change along with X-Men Legends after trading a couple of games I didn't like.
It was definitely cool to see Max use bullet time in this game, and it certainly saved my ass a lot in the game too. The story was awesome, it was gritty and realistic. I thought the nightmare levels were pretty disturbing. The way Max spoke in the Graphic Novel cutscenes, made the game feel like one of those old Film-Noir Classic movies. It also had some surprising twists, that I didn't see coming. The only complaint I have about the game is that the end level where Max has to fight his way through an army of heavily armed security guards and killer suit guys was very hard. It took me 4 or 5 hours to finish the level with great determination. But the work paid off, when I finally finished it and was treated with the most satisfying ending I've seen since finishing Knights of the old Republic on the Light Side path. You guys probably already know that earlier this year, my friend Justin who works with me at a movie theater let me borrow Max Payne 2, so it was really exciting to go back and see how Max started his vendetta against the mafia. Playing the first Max Payne game was absolutely fun and exciting, and I'm very happy that I bought it. |

Samorost 2. And I really enjoyed it. Much like the first game, only a little harder and a little longer.
4/5 Prior to that was Dreamfall, which I'm glad I didn't pay full price for. The dialogue, whilst less tiresome than The Longest Journey, was still somewhat stilted. And on several occasions, my controls remained virtually untouched for what must've been upward of an hour. And to say I felt ripped off by the ending would be a considerable understatement. That said, the protagonist was a significant improvement on the first game, so it wins points there. And there were a number of memorable locations (the Shadow Creature library comes to mind). 3/5 Last edited by simpson_yellow; 11-15-2006 at 02:56 AM. |

I just finished playing Runaway a road adventure. Found it in our local supermarket for only 5,99 € (probably because it's old). I'd rate it 9/10.
Funny thing is that i just noticed that the release of the 2nd one is pending. Really looking forward to that one! |

Wow.
Unless you count Full Throttle, the only game I finished recently was Gothic 2, the last section of the game was a big let-down to an otherwise grande adventure, sadly. (7/10) Oh, well okay, I admit that I've missed it the first time around for far too many reasons to list them all: Christmas Quest (13/10). 1/10 = abysmal 2/10 = terrible 3/10 = baaad 4/10 = meh, next 5/10 = average 6/10 = pretty good 7/10 = great 8/10 = awesome 9/10 = outstanding 10/10 = m-m-m-mooonsterkill!!!1 13/10 = God-like

I can add:
Legend of Kyrandia II: Hand of Fate (7/10) Legend of Kyrandia gave me a "meh" feeling. I cannot say it's a classic. The story is extremely cliché and a largest part of the game is an annoying labyrinth. Legend of Kyrandia 2 had a more original story, more innovative puzzles, cool areas and more humor. I was sad to see that Legend of Kyrandia 3 was prerendered 3d. Prerendered 3d or photographs downsized into 320x200@256color always make my skin crawl in disgust. Either I want handdrawn graphics or high resolution. LoK3 is what I sit with right now however. |

Shadow of the Colossus - good game, sad story. Artistically well done, but the gameplay could have been expanded somewhat.

Had a teen relative visiting so we played through Don Doko Don, Space Invaders '95 and Ninja Kids. I liked Don Doko Don the best.

Gears of War.
Finished it and going through it for a second time, its one of the most hyped games I've ever seen. It’s like the second coming or something. It deserves a 9/10 for being a good game but all this hype makes me sick. The game was a bit short from what I expected, but no reviews seem to mention that. But its a solid new franchise I look forward to see evolve.

Bah you played it in easy mode.
Play it in Hardcore or Insane and see if it's still as short.

Just finished Okami. A beautiful game, very underrated by the market not critics, and lots of fun to play. Two things stop it from being a perfect game: 1- too much dialogue, that tends to get annoying after more than 40 hours of gameplay, especially when there are no voice overs. 2- The game is too long for its own good. It is too long it becomes anti-climatic at some point, because you just feel it drag on and on instead of finishing with an oomph. What's the obsession of making 50+ hour long games, for people who have nothing else to do in life but play video games?

Games like Okami should be as long as they can.

Myst V was a letdown. Myst IV was probably the best in the series and one of the most beautiful games ever made.
Anyway: Legend of Kyrandia III (6/10) Annoying puzzles that required doing the same over and over and over again was a letdown and the step from LoK2's beautiful handdrawn 2d art to LoK3's prerendered "cheap" 3d graphics downscaled to 320x200 was ugly. Recommended to fans of the genré but not an adventuregame primer. |

True, but I was warned about Black Mirror as well and that game PWND!!!!
Anyway Aura, which overall was a lot better than expected. It had a really WEIRD non comprehensible story (like Myst V, but even worse), but it still came out superior to Myst V in the end. I'm not sure why, I guess the imaginative puzzles, ages and music did it for me. If the sequel includes a real story then I'm getting it as soon as it retails. Overall I'd say 7/10 for Aura. And that's good (for being me) considering it doesn't have a story. |
