In case anyone's interested - I sold all the ones I hated, so I don't have them anymore and erased them from my head. I've got a couple of would-be clunkers I really enjoy -

Justim Timberlake -Justified; actually, seriously good pop music with great backing from N.E.R.D. Incredibly hard to take seriously, I think it's fun.

Toby Keith - Shock'N'Y'all; My fave "comedy" album of all time. Cheesy beyond belief (American Soldier - supposedly ambiguous but the twist is given away by its name) and borderline racist (The Taliban Song, told as by an Afghan "cowboy" living in a cave praising his American heroes) to boot, it's so totally dumb, stupid and incredulously terrible that I can't help have a soft spot for it. Actually has some good songs and music on it though... I know it's awful but it sucks so bad it goes all the way around back to being good again.

Here's the lyrics for The Taliban Song, to show you how toe-curlingly bad it is. Toby Keith even regrets putting it on the album it's THAT AWFUL.

I'm just a middle-aged middle-eastern camel-herdin' man
I got a little two-bedroom cave here in North Afghanistan
Things used to be real nice and they got out of hand
Since they moved in
They call themselves the Taliban
Oooh, oooh the Taliban, baby

Now I ain't seen my wife's face since they came here
They make her wear a scarf over her head
That covers her from ear to ear
She loves the desert and the hot white sand
But man she's just like me
No she can't stand the Taliban
Oooh, oooh the Taliban, baby

But you know someday soon we're both gonna sadle up
And it'll be ride camel ride
My old lady she'll be here with me
Just smilin' right by my side
We should do just fine out around Palestine
Or maybe Turkmenistan
We'll bid a fair adieu and flip the finger to
The Taliban

I know where your coming from brother.
This is a patriotic love song, so ya'll feel free to salute if you want to, I'll give you permission!

Now they attacked New York City
'Cause they thought they could win
Said they would stand and fight until the very bloody end
Mr. Bush got on the phone with Iraq and Iran and said
Now you sons-of-bitches you better not be doing any business
with that Taliban

So we prayed to Allah with all of our might
Until those big U.S. jets came flying in one night
And they dropped little bombs all over their holy land
Man you should have seen them run like rabbits they ran
The Taliban

But you know someday soon we're both gonna saddle up
And it'll be ride camel ride
My old lady she'll be here with me
Just smilin' right by my side
We should do just fine out around Palestine
Or maybe Turkmenistan
We'll bid a fair adieu and flip a couple fingers to
The Taliban

And we'll bid a fair adieu and give a big boner to
The Taliban
Taliban

Jimi Hendrix - First Rays Of The New Rising Sun (I got it as a free gift from some music magazine club that I once was a member of)
Eagle-Eye Cherry - Desireless (ok, it has only one good song and that's Save Tonight)
Eagle-Eye Cherry - Living In The Present Future (Doesn't really have any really good songs)
Tuomari Nurmio - Hullu Puutarhuri (I've heard that this is an awesome album, but it just doesn't open to me)
Sapattivuosi - Sapattivuosi (songs of Black Sabbath translated in finnish, oh it's horrible I tell you...)

That's about it, I really don't have that many bad cd's or lp's.

The Get Up Kids - Something To Write Home About

(and that was only because of the good cover of Close to Me, boring emo album)

The Promise Ring - Wood/Water

(excellent artwork but two good songs out of twelve it's not that much)

Nine Inch Nails - And All That Could Have Been

(without the bonus acoustic cd, it's downright useless)

also

Jawbox - s/t

wasn't really great, especially if compared to For Your Own Special Sweetheart.

Maybe so, but I really love Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space.

Would-be clunkers? How dare you? Justified is a great album and nobody with a sane mind doubts it. I hope

I'd recommend you listen to Dismemberment Plan's cover of Close to Me, much more interesting, me thinks. That and pretty much everything based on the Cure riddim.

Nothing to get too excited over, it's not that bad. Killer singles, if nothing else.

Oh, absolutely, most definitely, not. EDIT: Gah. Still, they're great.

Ladies and Gentlemen We're Floating in Space is brilliant, and the title track is one of the best songs ever.

That was some years ago, I'm really bored with Cure covers about now. They got old with Dinosaur Jr's Just Like Heaven.

I actually bought LeAnn Rimes "I Need You" CD, and I didn't even know why since I'm not a big fan of pop! I didn't even listen to it! RM40 wasted... shoot me!

Mira

LeAnn Rimes isn't even a pop singer. She's a country singer so

ScottMate

Oh Scott!
What can I say? I really thought we had pretty similar tastes in music, but how can you not like "What's the Story....."??

It may not be their best album - that has to be "Definitely Maybe", but there are some pretty good tracks on "What's the Story..."
- Don't Look Back In Anger, Cast No Shadow, Champagne Supernova - all excellent songs
Some Might Say was okay, as was She's Electric

The only CD I have bought recently that I wish I hadn't is The Rasmus - Dead Letters

Mainly, they're off-key a bit more often than I like and it doesn't seem to be intentional. They also seem to be deeply influenced by the Beatles to the point that a lot of their songs sound like "B"-side Beatles recordings, yet I've heard them make some very uncalled-for and disparaging remarks about the Beatles in interviews.

As I said, I bought the CD, listened to it once and hated it. Since I respect your taste in music, I will listen to it once more to be sure.
