My avatar is simply the fish from the cover of my solo album in production, Eirik Myhr Goes Bananas. If ET was a fish, this is what he would look like.
And Kingz: Commander Keen 4 RAWKS! Oh, those were the days...

I played (though didn't beat) Keen way back in the day. Couldn't tell you which one's 1, 2, 3, 4, or that one with a name instead of a number, but I was a fan of all the old-school PC platformers (Jazz Jackrabbit, Jill of the Jungle, etc.).

Have you ever played Jazz Jackrabbit 2? Still one of the very best platformers for pc. Played it lots, especially because of the neat splitscreen feature. Delightful fun if you've got a willing friend.

Yeah, Jazz Jackrabbit is one of Hollandia's finest computergames to date XD (with the exception of Age of Wonders of course).

I'm glad you haven't mentioned Davilex Software
Those guys just don't know what they're doing. It's a shame how they degraded the wonderful Knight Rider series with their crappy game. --Erwin

I had only seen the dopefish in Keen 4, and had no idea they made such a big deal out of it! That's hilarious!

Wo, I didn't know all that about the Dopefish. I believe I'm able to remember something with a huge fish chasing you, but that may very well have been Super Mario for all I know
Davilex is a great shame for us, with its crappy software ('Amsterdoom'? Ack!). I won't even mention it in any list of Dutch developers. As far as I'm concerned, companies like IJsfontein (maker of children software like The Masters), are far better in what they do.

The game industry is virtually non-existent in Holland. There's Guerilla (formerly Lost Boys Games) which has a full staff, and there's Triumph Studios which has less than 10 employees if I remember correctly (probably 6 or-so). Playlogic/Khaeon seem promising, though I've not seen anything from them yet. Dreams Interactive has made some nice graphics for an MMORPG, but then again it's an MMORPG so it will most likely fail.
And those four are literally the only ones making full commercial games. I'm very frustrated with the unwillingness of the Dutch government to support this industry. For some reason Holland isn't investing anything in its cultural assets. (The same goes for our laughable movie 'industry'.) It's also unbelievingly hard to get any funding for a game company, cause it's impossible to find any investors who take games seriously. I think it's ridiculous that there's more game developers in Poland or Czech than in Holland. I hope things don't stay this way, or I'll have to emigrate to get a job. I reaaally hope Guerilla's game will do well, so that Holland gets its first hit title. Lots of game developers popped up in Finland after the success of Max Payne. |

Marek, what are these Guerilla games going to be then? Are they that full of potential? And I do believe we've already produced a hit with Age of Wonders, which spawned a sequel and various expansions. I believe it has a firm following and was quite succesful. Don't know for sure though.

Guerilla is working on the horribly titled Killzone for Sony, which has been hyped up as Sony's Halo Killer. They're also working on an unannounced multi-platform game.

Ah, well I admit that's a little more high-profile than Age of Wonders. But that doesn't mean it'll be a better game ^_^;

BUMPZ000rz !!!11one1!!
I love making up flags, hence my new avatar. It is a version of the old Yugoslavian flag, with the finger replacing the communist star. Even though I'm largely over the break-up of the country I was born in, I guess this is my way of saying "screw you" to the people responsible.

Just in case I change my avatar later:
She's makes me laugh and I wanted an adventure game avatar (although I still love Bucky Katt) |
