1. I'm all for it. I don't think sleeping with dozens of people is worth the trade off of being with your wife/husband for the first time after you get married. It's extremely special, and a connection that you simply can't have otherwise. Sure is rough for the time between getting engaged and getting married, though.
2. I managed it for 25 years before I got married. So... 25 years.
3. Sometimes. In general, if the end result is positive, sure. If it is negative, then no, that isn't a good enough reason. Like "I want to kill all the whales in the ocean, to prove I can" is not okay. In the case of celibacy, I'm not sure. Seems like there are better reasons than "because I can" but since the end result is (I believe) positive, I'd say whatever helps you manage it.

Same questions again. Those were interesting and very thought provoking.

1. It sounds OK to me.
2. I could wait until I met someone who I love, who loves me back and is ready.
3. It's always good to challenge yourself, and it's not like you're harming anyone.

1. I'm fine with it, as long as the person has a good personal reason for doing so. Saying "I'm not having sex until marriage because God forbids it" isn't one. In fact, I always intended to remain celibate until I was in a relationship with someone I cared about, as I think casual sex is empty and meaningless. It just so happened the first guy I briefly dated stuck his hand down my pants one day, and I thought "mmmn, that feels good" and saw no reason to object to his actions. It was a beneficial experience though, as I couldn't really decide whether I was attracted to him enough to keep dating him, and the fact that I had no desire to ever do that with him again, allowed me to stop seeing him almost immediately and move on.

2. I'm tempted to say almost indefinitely, but I suppose it depends on the circumstances. I'm not really that into sex, but that could be because it's all been bad drunken sex with people whose names I barely knew, yet alone cared anything about. If I was in a serious relationship with someone, I imagine the desire to express my affection physically would be so much stronger, and my ability to resist so much weaker. As things stand now I can quite satisfactorily take care of my sexual desires by myself - and a little help from xtube, lol. It does raise the question though, of how exactly are we defining celibacy? Is it just not having sex? Is it not receiving sexual gratification from another? Or do we go as far as to say it's not having any sexual gratification at all? According to Bill Clinton, the extent of what I do with a man isn't even sex at all, so I might have been celibate all this time without realising! See, my answer would differ dependant on these factors.

3. Possibly. I think it really comes down to what it accomplishes, and whether that's worthwhile. There are definitely better reasons for doing so. I'm not sure whether I like the notion of having to prove something to oneself to begin with. I think it's fine to test oneself now and again out of curiosity, but the idea of proving gives the impression that there's an internal conflict, and fundamentally you disbelieve what you're trying to tell yourself, so you're stubbornly embarking on a course of action instead of being honest with yourself.

I'll repost these questions:

1. I like this thread. I like to read other people's opinions. It's a pity that people sometimes answer very thought-provoking questions with 'yes' or 'no' though.

2. I have no opinion about it because I stay clear of it.

3. I think Squinky must be proud that her thread reached 100 pages already.

  1. Depends on the day. Workdays? It's past 6 or 7, necessarilly. But during my 3 week holiday vacation, found it to be 4 or 5.
  2. Strange, multi-level buildings with different people and activities on each floor.
  3. Definitely, many smaller dishes to sample. Tasting menus are the best food experiences for me.

1) Cook, for sure. I love cooking. It's like art that you eat. Fun stuff!
2) General Tso's Chicken. I've tried and tried... it just doesn't work at home.
3) Taco Bell. And does Qdoba count? It's sort of fast. I've taken to not liking McDonalds much anymore. Steak and Shake is so much better.

1. I've heard of it, but haven't seen it in action.
2. Game testing is easy an easy job, but some people still manage to screw it up.

1. Yes.

2. Sometimes, yes. This morning I was watching people work on the road next to me, and the car in front of me was already a few 100 m away before I remembered to keep an eye on it

3. Yes. But that was years ago.

1) Sports and video games. I get very competitive. Too much often times. My favorite, though, is when I know I can win and let the other person/people win instead. That's the best.

2) If we're talking traditional feminine, then cooking and such. I take care of the house in my family. Plus I try to help people and listen a lot when they need someone to listen.

3) I guess similar to #1. When I get mad when losing or something isn't fair, I tend to lash out more than I should. Emotion takes over. Usually to my own harm, no one else's. Also drooling is a lot of fun if you just sit there and let go, but I haven't done that since I was a teenager. Good times... (Just don't wear nice clothes when doing so, and not in public places.) Man that makes me sound weird. Ah well, I was a pretty weird teen.

I'm stealing your first two, they were really good.

1. When my wife isn't home, I dress up in her clothes and perform show tunes in my bedroom.
2. I hang out with my male friends and act just like "one of the guys", all the while oblivious to the fact that they all want to have sex with me.
3. Well, only the neighbourhood kids have seen me in drag, and I've captured and hidden them in my basement and replaced them with androids, so I think it's perfectly fine to assume that my secret's safe for now.

Your answers to my/JKR's questions made me laugh out loud Squinky. I'm still grinning

1. Bragging about how many points we score on the MIT nerd test, and telling each other about the fantastic things we've done using Linux. Yes, we geeks are a sorry lot.

2. My female colleague explained us about emotions today. Maybe we can do fantastic things with them, too?

3. I don't want to look up all those fancy words every time.

Just a line. What is just a line? It's boring.

1. What is the shortest story you can come up with?

2. What is the longest story you've ever come across?

3. Have you ever been gripped by a commercial?

Androgyny is neither male nor female (or at least indistinguishable as one or the other)

  1. Not one I came up with but there is a poem called "On the Antiquity of Microbes" which consists solely of "Adam had 'em".
  2. Probably L Ron Hubbard's Mission Earth decalogy. I read all 10 books because I hate to start things and not finish them but it really wasn't worth the effort.
  3. Not gripped but I do find myself amused by some. There was a recent one where a mother throws a screaming, on-the-floor, tantrum in a supermarket to shock her son out of one he's throwing himself. Once she's made her point she gets up, gives him a look and then they both move on. Not very effective as an ad though. I can't remember what is was for.
--Nothing to see here. Move on down to the questions please.--
  1. If someone has a misconception about you (e.g. your sex within the forums) do you always correct it or let it lie?
  2. Does it annoy you when you have to repeat something you know you've already told someone because they've forgotten?
  3. If money was no object, what would you spend your days doing?

1. I'd probably correct it. Unless it was something I didn't want people to actually know, and preferred someone spread misinformation about. Like if someone says I'm the most awesome person in the world, I'm not going to get on their case.

2. Sometimes. It depends on the situation. Most of the time, I suppose. But then I remember I forget things all the time, so I need to go easier on them.

3. Probably the exact same thing I do now (which would be cartoons, comics, and art) but I'd have an extremely modern studio with a team of slaves- I mean, "assistants" to help me reach the world. Also I would buy some Super Bowl commercials, and eat organic food.

1 & 2: People used to mistake my name for Gillian, for some odd reason. It was mildly irritating for a while, especially when people did #2. To #3, I'd like to run my own game studio in Monaco, and collect exotic firearms. Weird, eh?

1. We all change the world just by living in it. That said, I would indeed like to do my part in changing it substantially, because to be frank, it's structured in an appallingly unjust manner at the moment.
2. Depends what kind of contact. Not sure how I'd feel about being touchy-feely with extra-terrestrials.

Yeah right. Even if I wasn't American, I'm still an ARTIST so I'm obviously going to spell it with the method that takes one less key stroke. In fact, I think I may start taking useless letters out of more words. Does "useless" really need that extra e and s? Usles works JUST fine, eh?

Anyway, it grows rather poorly. 1) because I'm a terrible gardener and 2) because it's winter.
2. Depends if it's worded well. If it's JUST criticism, not much. If it's coupled with happy supportive cheer as well, plenty.
3. Not much. So I try to avoid it when possible. My original answer was dripping with sarcasm, but I decided against posting it.

1. What do you mean by 'less letters in the English language? How can a language have letters? Do you mean that you think people have written too many letters in English and they should start writing letters in another language?

2. No it can't. ksksksksksksksksksksksksks as a separation line doesn't look nearly as good as xxxxxxxxxxxx.

3. Yanks. They always think they're the best. 'Colour' sparkles and captures the essence of colour much better than 'color' does. 'Color' looks like a pencil drawing in black and white while 'colour' looks like a painting by Van Gogh.
