Default Eurovision Song Contest

I can't believe no one made this thread! I know you all watch Eurovision, so we might as well talk about it.

Congrats to Finland! I'm pretty happy with the results, although I wanted Norway in the top 10.

Anyone?

I also wanted Norway among top ten, also Denmark..

I hated Russias song, but they always make top ten because of all the former sovjetstates..

But Finland deserved to win!

I wanted "We are the winners of Eurovision" to win, just for the sheer gall of actually making that the lyrics of the song.

But Finland were worthy winners. They must have been boiling in those outfits.

I am so sick of this. Finland won?!! So all you need to be voted as the best is to dress up in ridiculous outfits and screech?! Meanwhile, Latvia had something practically unheard of at Eurovision -actual talent- and they barely got any points. I see this as an indictment of all of Europe. Well, not all of Europe- the people of Monaco had good taste, voting for Latvia, Bosnia-Herzagovina and Ireland. Ireland was nice; the problem was it sounded much like the theme from Shrek. Bosnia and Herzagovina was my vote, with a great taste that somehow managed to capture all the emotion of popular music without its cliched and tiring flashiness. It was good to see them make it to third, but that seems sort of moot when FINLAND WON. Blecch. I was also cheering on Lithuania, because how often do you get such gutsiness in this show? Their song was a taunt, pure and simple- the "melody", the words, the smug smiles on their faces. It was hilarious!

One thing I'm not resentful about is how few votes we (Israel) received. As far as I'm concerned, our singer didn't deserve even the four points France gave him. The song was terrible, and he couldn't sing to save his life. Oy.

On a side note, was I the only one to find the women smiling into the camera at the beginning of every video clip extremely irritating?

the a cappela song was interesting, but I wouldn't really call it great.. I've heard quite a bit of better groups.. But competing with a capella was gutsy and I hope more will do the same.

I also found the Bosnian song beautiful, but it was a bit tame to go to the top..

But I thought the Finnish song was nice. It was well-written, they weren't that bad singers, and the refrain was catchy..
HARD
ROCK
HALLELUJA!

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!

The saints are crippled
On this sinners' night
Lost are the lambs with no guiding light

The walls come down like thunder
The rocks about to roll
It's The Arockalypse
Now bare your soul

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock 'n roll angels bring that Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n roll angels bring that Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

The true believers
Thou shall be saved
Brothers and sisters keep strong in the faith
On the day of Rockoning
It's who dares, wins
You will see the jokers soon'll be the new kings

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock 'n roll angels bring that Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n roll angels bring that Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

Wings on my back
I got horns on my head
My fangs are sharp
And my eyes are red
Not quite an angel
The one that fell
Now choose to join us or go straight to Hell

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!

Rock 'n roll angels bring that Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n roll angels bring that Hard Rock Hallelujah

No Eurovision for the US either. So I have been completely lost everytime you all talk about it.

OMG! Finland are GWAR.

CBC Radio actually followed a bit of Eurovision. We voted on the songs that we liked but it didn't count for real, of course. I think the CBC winner was Norway. Iceland was a total Britney Spears rip-off, Latvia was HILARIOUS and terrible, Croatia was fun and cheesy, France was boring. The less said about the UK's entry the better.

i watched a bit to laugh at some of the talentless drivel (especially our own entry with some fat git in a trackie rapping lyrics like a six year old and some kinda hot girls in the background who sang badly). to be honest, im glad a band that actually USED instruments won but since they were a metal band playing on the EUROVISION BLOODY SONG CONTEST i have little or no respect for them.

I liked Finland and was happy they finally did well in the Eurovision. Usually the end up at the bottom.

I don´t agree at all. I think the song was great. It was still in my mind as I woke up this morning.

I heard that they only have this one outfit each that they use. Apparently they put it on a 7 am and after the party was over it was most likely 7 am again. Imagine how they must have been smelling.

Hey, watch it, buddy! Poison is untouchable, the very idea of another song being quite like it is insulting.

The problem is, they do go directly to the finals next year. France, UK, Germany and some other country all go directly to the finals, because they pay the most for the event. Which probably explains why they don't bother to put on an effort.

The Lithuania entry was pure comedy gold. You've got all these acts going up on stage singing their wee hearts out, and then these guys just turn up with something that sounds like it was thrown together in 15 minutes after a major piss up.
You think there might be some kind of hidden message in there?

"We are the win-ers, of eu-ro-vision, VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE for the winners!"

If anyone didn't see it you have to check out this video:

Of course, with all the tactical voting we were never going to win. Mind you, that may also have had something to do with the fact that we once again submitted a rubbish song. I can only assume that the UK wants to avoid having to host the competition any time soon .

And now I just have to wait to borrow the recording of Eurovision that someone else was making, as I was out at the time .
