Yeah it's pointless and I for one will not participate in this nonsense.
Discworld, best adventure game ever. |

I think these threads only become pointless when people start to argue.
I can't believe you picked that. That sucks! It's all a matter of taste. I like seeing what other people think, as long as they're civil about it. As for me, I haven't read the entire thread, but I'd be willing to bet I'm the first person who's going to say Police Quest 2. Crawling around the sewers with Jesse Baines at game's end is one of the most intense moments I've ever experienced playing an adventure. |

I think, when people mean 'perfect', it means a game which fits the best in all criteria, so is not to be mixed up with 'favourite'.
My fav is Discworld Noir, but it's not the perfect. I'd nominate 'Grim Fandango' because: -the graphics look great even now and have a unique sense of character both on the level design and characters (unlike other games like The Longest Journey, The Moment of Silence where characters and sets are cliched and have nothing to distinguish between 10 other games) -has a remarkable story about travelling over a long period of time (that's adventure!). One that, whilst parodies other stories, doesn't become cliched or rip off of others (like Keepsake or TLJ). -perfect script which is funny but doesn't resort to adult, and comedy that's suitable for any age and gender, -music that fits the mood at all times. -attempted a new control style and, at least for me(with a game pad) found it easy to use - and didn't just conform to what was the norm to other AGs at the time -didn't make a sequel 1-2 years later for the hell of making as much money using the name of the 1st. Im sure there are other reasons too, |

Another vote for Grim Fandango as probably very best all time...
With Quest for Glory 4 and Monkey Island 2 just behind it. Day of the Tentacle also way up there. |

The Hiitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
Someone earlier asked why all of these old games were being chosen. I was wondering why so many of the old games were not chosen (Didn't Grim Fandango miss the heyday of adventure gaming?) No graphics, restarting frequently. However, something just works. It is the game that I have enjoyed more than any other. Graphics are a novelty. Once you get past the 'Ohh, that looks nice' they don't interest me at all. Good puzzles and an entertaining ride is what I look for, and HHGTTG has that in large quantities. |

it is hard to choose between grim fandango, longest journey and broken sword 1 ...
grim fandango has the best characters and art direction in all games broken sword has great story and eye-catching graphics but.. .. "Longest journey" is the best! |

I would have to say broken sword 1. I remember the locations like real places, and every screen excited me with new possibilities. Great installation, with pong to play while you wait, and great gameplay all the way through. Simply stunning, even today. My girlfriend played through it recently and she had a blast. LOng live broken sword! (I just wish broken sword 4 was more stable...as a game it seems pretty good, but the crashes people r getting drives a guy crazy!)

*Grim Fandango for pure genious and a Salute to the last good game Lucasarts ever made...
Other than that, Kings Quest 6. Can't beat it. I notice a lot of you guys are picking Still Life and Longest Journey. Have you actually bought the classics and seen what a real hard game is like?

So many greats..Dott, samnmax, grim fandango etc, my favourite i guess would be Monkey island (1+2). Ron Gilbert (creator of these two) has mentioned recently that he would love nothing more than to be given the rights to monkey island so he could create the finale, Monkey island 5...*wishes*
Not forgetting Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman, hired by Gilbert, greatly involved in dott, samnmax and so on...Things are looking up in the adventure world, with the release of Sam and Max 2, Psychonauts etc, roll on good times! |

HI
I agree that Grim Fandango is a very good as well as innovative & creative adventure game. So Grim Fandango is the best adventure game ever - for me. aries323 |
