You mean, like getting back on topic? Unreal Engine 3 is the basis of an unannounced next-generation title from Epic Games, aimed at upcoming consoles and 2006 PC's, they say. I guess, that's the final nail in the coffin for my rig. I'm not quite sure, but could it be that I read something about a new technology to render forests and trees?

There's no jiggle. No wobble, no coins bouncing off them... They're stationary 3D renders, and not all that exciting either.

I stand by my position that there needs to be more research and development in realistic ass physics in 3D games. Maybe 3DFX could break back into the market, or Nvidia recover ground to the current ATI dominance by releasing a PCIe ass accelerator card which can handle the complex texturing, light & shadow, jiggle and scrunchyness physics of asses.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines has an asstactular array of booty. Valve wasted their time with all the physics use in HL2, when VtMB hardly contained any accept for probably the best implementation of breast and ass physics you have ever seen apart from real life. No wonder the game was so buggy, they must have been distracted.

That's built on Unreal 3 tech? But it genuinely doesn't look much better than Unreal 2!

(yes, the textures are a little nicer, but I'm not seeing anything that blows my mind).

My views on Doom³ have already been stated on these boards. Obsessive normal mapping is no substitute for high resolution textures!

It's still good to see that this engine will be used for a bit more, ahem, sophisticated kind of games. (Best Unreal 1 engine game: The Wheel Of Time. )

So true, but great modern games are a unification of all three elements.

Graphics are important, it's not so much about the advance of technology, but the goals of being consistant, immersive, and communicative. As much as the constant pursuit of better graphics has been negative, in my opinion, to the gameplay there have been games where the gameplay has only been enriched by the graphics.
