Sorry I guess I should've 'filtered' it of links through notepad

BTW, those of you wondering if Dreamfall will have it, I just found this article from last month saying Aspyr has dumped StarForce, just like Ubisoft.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6147655.html
The first article says Aspyr has dropped S***Force for GalCiv2 Dread Lords and SpellForce 2. But does that mean they won't be using it for other games? TAC didn't put S***Force on Moment of Silence, but turned around and used it on Still Life.

The Ubisoft article at least makes it clear they won't use it anymore because of the lawsuit.

True, we don't know for sure. But I think there's a pretty good chance considering they issued a public apology and went through the hassle of picking a new copy protection method.

As I posted in a Dreamfall thread, Aspyr say they aren't going to use StarForce for any games if you email them. They give the exact same response to everyone, with a spelling mistake.

Oh well I guess I can forgive them their spelling mistake.
Thanks for the info.

Any idea who will publish Dreamfall's LE? Someone claims at the official Dreamfall forums that Micro Application who are publishing it in Germany and possibly rest of central Europe will use Starforce.

http://forums.longestjourney.com/sho...?t=1947&page=8

Edit: It has been confirmed. Micro Application will use Starforce

Micro Application
Most of Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the French speaking part of Canada

Glad I ordered it directly from Funcom

MA must be incredibly stupid, especially now that there are tools for removing even the latest SF versions from software so that every person with even the slightest skill in programming can do it.

Is it confirmed that the copies from the FunCom store will not be published from Micro Application? As far as I can see, FunCom store is based in Germany, because they have outsourced it.

You think publishers would have learned by now. No one wants to buy a game with StarForce and even the big companies such as Ubisoft are dropping it.

Given the number of publishers that have started to drop StarForce, I can see that trend continuing, personally.

sorry to say, yes, I've read the post in the German forum: the dtp-moderator said that dtp, who had announced not to use Starforce for their own games anymore, was forced by Micro Application to use Starforce for the German edition of Dreamfall.

Well.... Maybe other European territories won't have it? Maybe they just don't trust the Germans?

That sucks.

So the "Funcom version" will also have SF? Well, guess I'll have to pirate my copy of Dreamfall (I've already pre-ordered regardless so sue me ).

Hope not, I plan on ordering my copy from there. Or maybe DVDBoxOffice, haven't decided yet.

But I'd still like being able to just walk into a shop and get my Starforce-free copy.

Perhaps we should just wait for the Sold-Out SF-free version

Default The Nordic version of Dreamfall WILL have Starforce!!

I've just been in contact with the store I am buying Dreamfall (LE) from and they sendt me an email confirming my worst fears, my edition of Dreamfall WILL have Starforce.

Pasting in message and translation:

Hei

Nå har jeg vært i kontakt med Funcom og kan bekrefte at Drømmefall
dessverre kommer med Starforce i nordisk versjon.

Med vennlig hilsen

Translation:
Hi
Now I've been in contact with Funcom and can confirm that Dramfall unfourtanatly will come with Starforce on the Nordic version..

I wonder if this means that all Funcom Dreamfalls will come with starforce??

Last week, I ordered the "Dreamfall : Limited Edition" from your website. There has been some speculation about what type of copy-protection this edition will use for the US/North American territories. Could you or an official Funcom spokesperson confirm what copy-protection software will be used? There is some concern that Starforce (which is known to have negative effects on computers) will be used. I'd appreciate a response on this matter as soon as possible.

Thanks,

A concerned customer"

And their response:

"The limited Edition, available in Europe, is from Scandinavia and will have Starforce copy protection. Copies shipped through Aspyre (who are publishing the U.S. version), will use Securom copy protection.

-- Best Regards, Geoffrey Higgins Funcom Support Manager"

I hope this will be helpful to those that are concerned about this issue.

That sooooooo sucks. So I suppose even regular editions ordered from Europe will come with StarForce? I'm this close to pirating this game, and after all this wait...

(Only until I can get my hands on a StarForce-free version for a reasonable price, of course. But no way I'd be paying the full import price.)

EDIT: Okay, I overreacted, I might still import it from elsewhere, but ****! $%&##V%&$ etc...

Side thought:

While I still dislike the thought of StarForce, unfortunately I can't bring myself to support the most notable Boycott site anymore, considering how much jerks they are.

Check out this forum thread on the incompleteness of the game list. The consensus in the replies seems to be that adding all the different versions would be "too complicated" and that if a developer really didn't want to use StarForce they'd use all publishers that don't use it. (Because, you know, if you're "any good" it's really easy to find a publisher... according to many of the Boycott forumites anyway, it seems. )

Of course, it would help immensely if there was some kind of official list, or companies just listed what copy protection is used on the game box...

Peace & Luv, Liz

Sure, they are jerks. It doesn't change the fact that StarForce sucks, though. I don't care about supporting the Boycott StarForce website, I just care about, you know, boycotting StarForce.
