Um. I read your quotation from Bethesda and didn't see anything about them implementing a different system, only removing the old one. And in terms of development time there's obviously a pretty big difference between the two.

It states they changed the system, so yes, it is different. Read the bit about cube maps (it's late and I can't recall it totally, but that was the bit).

edit - or rather read the entire posts linked to other than my quotes.

And now I will blame you for your selective quotations .

So what? Lots of game companies do that.

Not that I really care about shadow, myself, as I usually play old games, and find all the screenshots marvelous already.
Oblivion is quite a beautiful looking game to me. I look forward to exploring those worlds.

Oh for heavens sake... you've just spent four pages discussing the shadow system used in one game. Will it really kill the game for you? Will it really matter in the long run?

Bah. The game will have too many shadows as it is. I've heard that even if you get infected with vampyrism and become a full-fledged vampyre after three days pass untreated, your character *still* casts a shadow. Everyone knows vampyres don't cast shadows! What kind of bullcrap is this?!? I want my flippin' preorder money back!!!

Cheers,

Let's forget about shadows, levitation and vampires, and drown in the following:

Not that wikipedia is necessarily authoritative, but in this case it does compile a pretty good list of common traits attributed to vampires, from which this is excerpted:

Quote:
Vampires typically cast no shadow and have no reflection. This mythical power is largely confined to European vampiric myths and may be tied to folklore regarding the vampire's lack of a soul. In modern fiction, this may extend to the idea that vampires cannot be photographed.
I guess it depends on the specific vampire tradition. I suppose BethSoft's vampires may not be of the same breed that I'm more familiar with. He'd better not have a reflection though, or else I'll never forgive them.

What is that? More free junk to collect and take up space in one's life?

It's a replica of a Septim, Tamriel's Empirical currency. It's awesome. I want a treasure chest full of it so I can play Morrowind/Oblivion in Real Life.

Now all I need is a cave, and some people randomly shouting N'WAH or DIE FETCHER.

Can use it to buy stuff in real life? That might fetch lots of chocolat truffles. Or martinis.

According to Anne Rice, REAL vampires have no problems with garlic (apart from the horrible smell, like ordinary humans), holy water (?), crucifixes (many of them actually like them), they cast shadows and reflections - since they are all beautiful, they need to keep themselves tidy, don't they?

The sun is one of the few real threats. That and drinking blood from a person whose pulse has stopped beating (ie. dead).

Of course, the traditional type is a lot weaker.

I'm guesstimating you can make money out of them by selling it on Ebay to loonies like me who want all Septims they can get their mitts on.

Yes, why garlic? And how would the vampires be able to feed in countries where garlic is used in 99% of the dishes?
