Latest Forum Update: New Time-out Feature?
While I'm waiting for responses or while there's a lull in the conversation around here, I often bounce back and forth between here and other websites. Since the update, I get automatically logged off here every time I do this.
Also, I type very slowly, and have twice gotten logged off without my knowledge while answering PMs. When I hit the "Submit" button, I got a screen that informed me I was not logged in and everything I had just typed was lost. Does the update include a feature that automatically logs one off after "X" minutes of inactivity, and if so, why doesn't typing count as activity? Granted, I am using a 7-year-old Macintosh running an obsolete OS, but I never had these problems before. Could this be an issue of my settings not meshing with the new setup? Thrift Store Scott

Scott,
Can your browser save passwords? I also think you can have the site remember you so you are automatically logged in. Mel |

And great job with the update, guys! Now, the forum remembers which threads I haven't read even if I log out! Cool.

There's a session cookie timeout of 15 minutes, but there should always have been one. Dont' know why your browser was angered by the update. I increased it to 30 minutes, in any case, but assuming you're on your own computer you shoudl set the "remember me" flag when you login.

I'm with UPtimist on this one. I'll probably get used to using "Mark all forums read", but at the moment my habits are completely upset. I think I'm going to sue.

And look on the bright side, guys! For example, there are tons of Fahrenheit threads floating around here, which I decided against reading lest I spoil the enjoyment of game I am willing to play soon. Now, I may just leave them alone, come back to the forums after I play it and see all the posts I deliberately missed as new! Also, I may go to the lecture which starts in a minute and not fear I haven't managed to read all the updated threads, because they still will be bolded next time I log in! I sustain that it's a cool feature.
