Default Typos? Typoes?

The joys of words not in the dictionary. Which do you religiously deem correct?

Please, try to write "wrong" correctly.

Have a little respect for this mistreated word.

Whilst I'm always loathed to trust sites such as Dictionary.com to provide accurate answers to questions such as the typos/typoes debate, Onelook.com returns several matches for "typos", including Merriam-Websters, but no matches for "typoes". I suspect, therefore, that "typos" is indeed correct.

Go me.

This might be due to it being short for "typographical error".

Typos! Typos! Typos!

Anyway, this thread remind me of some lame jokes I'd liked to crack to fool the year 1 undergrads during some lessons that I'm supposed to be covering. What is the plural form of mongoose? And is it octopi or octopuses?

I always snicker whenever someone misspells the word 'misspell'.

Typographical errors, yes - but not typographicals!

Edit:

To answer the question, both. I don't know why, but I find "typoes" to look "correcter". Which obviously makes me a minority here, it seems. But I freely type "typos" every once in a while, too. I think I'm pretty much 50/50 on this one.

Edit 2:

This may be because I'm german, or because I'm a programmer*. I'm used to pronouncing "~pos" as "~poss". And it's not tai-poss it's tai-poes. So maybe that's why.

Edit 3:

* strpos (pos for position) for those that didn't get it.

Well, to be fair, the english pronounciation of "position" is an odd midway thing between "poss~" and "poes~". It's still a long way from the "~poes" sound in typoes, though, which was my point.

Edit: Unless you exaggerate it in that stuck-up-british way. *needs a <3 smiley to abuse*

English spelling and pronounciation rarely correspond.

Is that c++, php, or both?
