Feeder - Sweet 16

I discover music through a few methods, recently it was last.fm, a few months ago I tried Pandora but the Flashness anoyed me too much, but before them it was SHOUTcast, I discovered Laika and ADULT from there.

Sweet 16 got played at random/shuffle from 6000 tracks, which is convenient, because I discovered it through Gran Turismo, my first PS1 game. Another example of discovering music through games is Chiasm, Genitorturers, and Darling Violetta all feature in one of my favourite games Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.

The next track on random/shuffle is Joan Jett - Consumed, I discovered Joan Jett from the TV show Freaks and Geeks, "Bad Reputation" was the theme. I discovered some music through one of my favourite TV shows Veronica Mars, there's a VM music website, some of the music I discovered on it were Ivy, Air's new album, and Mike Doughty. It uses The Dandy Warhols as the theme tune, and nearly every episode it plays one of my favourite bands.

My favourite band at the moment is Snow Patrol, I've played them the most on Last.fm. They were recommended to me by a friend, and I discover a lot of music from my friends playing it.

Hammerite: Radioblog seems quite interesting, they are hardly compliant with DMCA regulations though. I expect them to be shut down soon.

Aj_: ShoutCAST is great, but I prefer music on demand myself - besides, my only favourite station RADIO.Abnormis has been taken down quite a while ago.

The probably best song in the world.

I mean it. I love that song. It's darn catchy.

All I could think of while watching that was this. I am not entirely sure what to think of either one. It's been a long day.

Is the lead singer doing some (fairly basic) Cossack dancing there?

Catchy, though.

Did you know that "Boney M" was from Germany too?

Yes, he is. Somewhere out there there is a version where he does advanced Cossack dancing.

My mother used to be able to do Cossack dancing. But she can no longer, what with being older, and having had a car accident which causes her legs to still hurt on days with bad weather these days.

I once saw a load of Cossack dancing at a performance thing when I was on a history trip to Russia. The advanced stuff is very impressive.

In the version where he does advanced Cossack dancing, he doesn't sing. I guess he has to focus too much on the dancing.

Isn't that kind of cheating?

Impressive, but not as impressive as it would be if he sang too .

Exactly the same here actually.

I too use Last.FM as an aid to discover new music. It used to bother me that it effectively makes my playlist public, but ultimately, who cares? You're all free to laugh at the profusion of Abba and Tina Turner on my profile page if you like, I'm secure enough for it, honest. No, really!

The Last.FM radio software is useful, especially if you're subscribed and have access to the 'personal' stations of friends with convergent tastes.

Pandora's an interesting concept, but it's Flash, so it's too irritating and slow to be truly useful. Fortunately, my musical tastes are mainstream enough that listening to the rad- i- o [where you can hear the songs you know - sorry], online or on FM, is enough to introduce me to new stuff I love. I just bought the new Snow Patrol album because of it.

Watching various US television dramas has been responsible for introducing me to a few excellent North American acts who sadly don't get radio play here, such as The Arcade Fire and Islands - and more I can't think of right now.

Finally, you can't underestimate the impact of casually trading MP3s online (among aquaintances, not via P2P). Yeah so it's illegal, boo hoo, but it's probably generated more than enough in additional legitimate CD purchases - by me, natch - to make up for it.

Update - ok, forget Boney M, these other German guys are better!

MX0011a0001 - Baldur's Gate Saga.

As far as I can tell, this one is the music that plays in the dream sequences of Baldur's Gate 2.
