I love Miles, especially his more experimental funky stuff.

Hmm. I tend to find him less bearable as he gets more experimental, but that's my classical roots showing through. Either way, Birth of the Cool is the only Davis CD that I actually have, but it's a good'un.

In a strange mixture of emotions during these moments, guys. But somehow this one is helping to stabilize me, just a wee bit...

Downtown
Petula Clark

When you're alone and life is making you lonely
You can always go - downtown
When you've got worries, all the noise and the hurry
Seems to help, I know - downtown
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose?

The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go downtown, things'll be great when you're
Downtown - no finer place, for sure
Downtown - everything's waiting for you

Don't hang around and let your problems surround you
There are movie shows - downtown
Maybe you know some little places to go to
Where they never close - downtown
Just listen to the rhythm of a gentle bossa nova
You'll be dancing with him too before the night is over
Happy again

The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go downtown, where all the lights are bright
Downtown - waiting for you tonight
Downtown - you're gonna be all right now

And you may find somebody kind to help and understand you
Someone who is just like you and needs a gentle hand to
Guide them along

So maybe I'll see you there
We can forget all our troubles, forget all our cares
So go downtown, things'll be great when you're
Downtown - don't wait a minute more
Downtown - everything's waiting for you

Downtown, downtown...

I know, and I don't know. Yesterday, after I chatted briefly with my mum on the phone reminding her when my flight to L.A. will be, I lay down on the bed and just stared off, for what seemed like ages. Then I went outside and stood staring at the sky and trees for nearly an hour. I hadn't eaten and my tummy was growling furiously, but I couldn't bring myself to eat. It was really cold out and I was just wearing a fleece pullover over a t-shirt, and pajamas.

I finally had to force myself to go inside and heat up some broth. I felt completely, profoundly blank. As if I didn't exist yet I was more than aware of every single thing around me.

Now I'm listening to Petula Clark's I Know A Place.

I have days like that, sometimes I don't feel like eating breakfast, but then, thesame feeling hits me when I'm about to eat dinner, it sucks. As for your existential woes (not sure if that's the right word, but whatever), don't worry, you exist alright!

Knowing you have a huge change happening in your life and it's overwhelming you maybe? It's coming but it's not here yet. A bittersweet phase of your life is ending and the rest is unwritten. One day at a time... That's all you can do.

Song for a Winter's Night - Sarah McLachlan (originally done by Gordon Lightfoot)

The lamp is burning low
upon my table top
snow is softly falling
the air is still
in the silence of my room
I hear your voice softly calling

If I could only have you near
to breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy
just to hold the hands I love
on this winters night with you

Smoke is rising in the shadows overhead
my glass is almost empty
I read again between the lines
upon each page,
the words of love you sent me

If I could know within my heart
that you were lonely too
I would be happy
just to hold the hands I love
on this winters night with you

The Fire is dying
my lamp is growing dim
shades of night are lifting
morning light steals across my window pane
where webs of snow are drifting

If I could only have you near
to breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy
just to hold the hands I love
on this winters night with you
And to be once again with you

It's even less common with me, though. I think the last time I experienced this was around 3 years ago.

It may be, strewn in with a new and major shift in my life, a sign of depression as well. My ex certainly hasn't truly helped at all, all he does is lavish his attention on his online chat friends. He's the main reason I'm leaving. My mind and emotions probably decided to take the day off. Other than shipping off two small boxes of things ahead me and going to my last therapy group session, there's absolutely nothing left here in Oregon for me to do. I'm counting the days...
