Oh the horror

Right now I'm listening to a song called "We Need to Eat" by Kent. Kent is a Swedish band that has also released some of their songs in English.

That bands makes me want to slit my wrists. It's total depression music.

EDIT: Hey, I never said that it's BAD music. I like some of their songs. For me, it's depression music.

Apologies if my Mars Volta debate comment seemed negative--it was just meant to say it would be fun to hear about a bunch of different stuff, even if it's polka (Planes, Trains, & Automobiles anyone?).

Now I've moved on to Dinah Washington singing "A Case of the Crabs." Ooops! Wrong window--that's an independent Adventure. She's singing "After You've Gone."

Kent is very depressing, that is one reason I love them. Perfect mood music.

I listen to it only when I'm already depressed, but when I'm feeling good or neutral I prefer something happy (=modern hard bop). I've been depressed for too long. I know listening to depressing music doesn't help at all, but trying to cheer oneself up doesn't help at all either. And you can always play air drums to the music and turn fear and self-hatered into aggression towards something else that way.

The most depressing thing I've ever heard is Joan Baez. Some friend of mine masochistically listens to it each and every time he feels down.

Now I'm at home again I'm listening to the charming "Hell is for children" by Pat Benatar. A song about the evils of child abuse with some pretty disturbing and thought-provoking lyrics.

J'ai perdu mes repères
Je nage en eau trouble
Emmène-moi aussi loin que possible
Les paysages défilent et la brume se dissipe
Grâce Ã* toi Ã* nouveau je respire

Tellement loin de ce monde

Kent is great. Don't know which song "we need to eat" is though. Have they recorded the songs in english as well?

I only listen to their english stuff. When they sing in swedish, the language has some similarities to german, but it isn't, so my brain tries to process it and I get this huge headache... yeah, its weird.

I don't know if the lyrics are translated directly, but the chorus goes:

"I said you need to eat
She says I'll feed on your breath
What if I leave
She says without you I'd be dead
I need some sleep
But I can't let her alone
and If I leave I'd be afraid of coming home"

No, not meant to be sexy at all. There is no "sexy" need in this song, it's extremely sad.

So more like a desperate/vampire/dependency thing, hunh?

Sounds like a good album! I'll check it out.

Well, you won't find that song on any of the albums, but try to get "Hagnesta Hill" if you can find it. The US release was cancelled, but you can still find copies floating around for some reason (the CD even says it was printed in Ohio). Of course it is available in Europe. And make sure you get the English version, not the Swedish.

Right now I am listening to LotR: Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack, to celebrate the release of Return of the King: extended edition next tuesday

I'm listening to Meshuggah (Nothing), but that's just because I'm feeling a little mellow at the moment...

Hm. I might way for my next trip to Sweden.
