I always assumed "donut" was just a quasi-abbreviation of "doughnut," kind of like stoves, etc. that have a "HI" setting instead of "HIGH"

Who cares how you spell it? Its how many you can eat in a minutes that counts! And the filling! And the frosting!

In Spain we call them donuts and we have the small ones called donettes!

BTW, I thoght the name came from "DOH! I made a hole in this pastry! Me boss will have me NUTS fer this!!"

Doughnuts are posh donuts, you can tell the difference becuase they quite metrosexual.... You cannot eat them if they don't like what you are wearing or if the coffe mug is ugly....

I had to put some hair gel and a suit to eat one... Snotty b*stards....

The question I have is, um, what do we do with old thread? I mean, for folks who have been around here for awhile, I guess it's nice to take a walk down memory lane. As a newcomer, do I respect the integrity of the thread or add my two cents' worth? But even though I hold deep opinions about doughnuts, and ALSO dated a linguist (Trep!--could we have dated the SAME linguist??? He did live in Chicago at one point!) and got all the "cunning linguist" jokes from my friend (I suppose I got more of these than Trepsie, but people just can't resist the darn joke), I'm just not sure anyone wants to hear more about doughnuts. Sooooooooooooo . . .

Is it me, or are all the threads becoming like, meta-threads? Or does this always happen, and I just don't know it because I'm new?

Don't worry. These threads didn't have much integrity to begin with.

No contest. It's Sam all the way. Sam is ham and Max is tax. Nuff said.

It definitely doesn't happen often. As far as I know, Wormsie and Trep are the only ones who participate in occasional grave robbing and revive old threads.

What's even worse is somebody reviving old polls and causing you to vote on them. This is another Wormsie specialty, which is why I think his answer to the Poll on Polls was not accurate at all. The guy clearly loves polls.

Hey, I used to be the Poll Master. I think I still have the hat here somewhere.

That's an odd juxtaposition of smilies. I'm guessing this has something to do with donuts eh?

WEEEEEEEEEEE for innocent smilies! What would you get if two innocent smilies had babies? I think something would explode.

So, every spring, my crew team has a competition for the freshman after the last regatta called the Doughnut Challenge. Basically, each frosh is given a dozen Dunkin' Donuts, and are timed to see who can eat all twelve the fastest. (The record is seven minutes.) Each frosh is given an upperclassman partner who will dip the doughnuts into water so that they go down faster.

I made it through 9 or 10, if I remember correctly, before my stomach said, "No more room at the inn!" and I had to stick my head in a garbage bag. That doesn't necessarily disqualify you, but I did not want to do what was necessary to get back in the game. (Which isn't quite as disgusting as it sounds, since what comes back up is basically just mashed-up doughnut. Your stomach doesn't have time to secrete any digestive juices yet.)

Let me tell you, I couldn't look at a Boston Creme all summer.

At least I didn't get back into the game. Some people did.

Lol. True enough. But that's because I really like doughnuts (note personal preferred spelling) and wanted to talk about them!!! And also about linguistics. I did not want to think about otherwise delicious Boston Creme Pie donuts soggily dripping Charles River Water . . . (Literally.)
