Picking a Bone With Those Who Recommended "The Walking Dead"
The first "graphic novel" was great, I loved it! So I asked for the other two in the continuing series for Christmas, and when I got it, I noticed something was off. It finally hit me, they changed artists! And the guy they got to replace the first with SUCKS! The art in the first one was so much better than the scribble the other guy put out. The story was still great, but the drawings just sucked compared to the first.

I also disliked the change of artists. Got used to it though.

I only read the first TPB and loved that, didn't like the change either but didn't read it yet.

Yeah, I mean, the first guy was really good! I liked his style, but the other dude? Bunch of scribble!

He also didn't keep the character design consistent. I was under the impression with the first artist, that Rick's wife had some Native-American in her.
But I guess this style has also sorta grown on me. The first artist had something similar to a manga style, and people were always so clean and "happy" looking. The new style seems to fit more with the gritty tone of the series. But one could argue that a nice clean style helps brighten the dreary tone of the writing, and that it's a good thing... At this point, I could go either way.

It is more gritty, and that's what I don't like about it. I liked the contrast of the clean drawing mixed with the grim tone of the story. Plus, in the first one, the zombies had more detail. IN the later ones, they don't seem to be too nasty looking. The most important thing to me is how the zombies look, and in the first one, they just looks creepier to me.
