Last I heard from SJH, some Japanese chick chatted him up at Starbucks. Well, someone is definitely having fun.

Starbucks? In that case, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Everyone knows the hot chicks hang out at Mr. Donut.

Japanese women do seem to love Westerners. They're usually so shy though, she must've had real guts! My gf used to teach over there, and whenever I've met her students they've barely made eye contact. The most friendly people on Earth though.

Often it's a love-hate thing.

Some of it's shyness, some of it's the social hierarchy. A student isn't likely to look a teacher straight in the eye, neither is a younger person going to sustain direct eye contact with an older person unless they're close friends. Some of the hip young urbanites are more used to dealing with foreigners, though, so they tend to adjust better in foreign social settings.

They'd better not love this particular Westerner too much!

Well, SJH is in Kyoto. He'll only be back in Tokyo this Saturday, so guess he'll popped in into the forum then.

Oooo there was a big war there, with cannons and samurais and Kenshin and stuff
is there some reason that kyoto is tokyo with the end at the front?

Nope.

Or, more accurately, yep.

Or, more specifically, yes, insofar as the kyo in both names means capital. Kyoto is literally capital city, but Tokyo actually means eastern capital.

Don't worry. I've sent some of my people to keep an eye on him. If he makes one wrong move...

Kyoto is great, such beautiful temples, and many fantastic Karaoke bars where I murdered Bon Jovi

It means killer/murderer.

I've also been guilty of hitogoroshi of many good songs in various karaoke bars. I'm so bad that some of my friends always start up a collection when it's my turn at the mike to try to bribe me to stop singing.

Back for a moment. I Kyoto, saw geisha, been to temples, visited massive Hiroji temple, off to Naya tonight for lantern fesitval.

Au revoir!

Oh, and RE the film thread @ once - don't assume I haven't seen those movies. I have. A lot of that stuff was classic firsts but have been superceded in my eyes later.

We're glad to hear you're having a nice time in Japan. More pics, please.

Bastard, I wish I was there

I saw a geisha over there too, when I was drunk. I took photos and then lost them by accidentally formatting my memory card in a Japanese PDA. D'oh!!

SJH is useless at keeping us up to date. Do you guys even know that's he's leaving Japan today?

Just got a text from him, saying that he's on his way to the airport for his flight back to London.

Well he should get out of his way if he's currently in his way ...

Well, there wasn't much updates about the Japan adventure, but I'm hoping that he has a pile of pics to show us from the trip.

Yeah, apart from me being tired last weekend and ill I haven't been keeping this thread up to date. Sorry! I've been posting a lot though, but only because I stayed up late too much and that damn stomach bug on Monday to Wednesday... didn't stop me heading out though!

Anyhow, here I am. I'm back! And I'm updating my picture blog. So far there's only the beginning to see, but give me time and I'll put stuff up as the week goes by.

Hope you enjoy it. Click my sig link to see!
