Default Adventure Gamers and Life

It almost feels like yesterday when I logged unto these forums for the first time. Back then I was a 17-year-old kid who had googled himself to Evan's "Top 20 AGs of all time" feature, started going through the site and noticed these forums. I read through a few threads and joined the fun the same day (10.01.2003).

I started to post almost immediately, although not very frequently in the beginning. I remember feeling quite shy since I had not lurked before joining and this was the first net-community I joined. Let's not underestimate the language issue either, since English is basically my third language and I hadn’t written anything in English before joining this place (besides at school of course).
So it was all a bit intimidating, but just like now the forumites were warm-hearted and friendly people who made me feel right at home (never change!).

Now, exactly three years later, I'm still here and it still feels just as nice to visit as it did in the beginning. I know I'm not around as much as a year ago, but firstly I'm busier now when I study at university and I also try to have a better balance between my real life and AG nowadays. A year ago I think I was here more than I should have for my own good, and I thought I would die when I left for the army (incidentally exactly a year ago, man it feels like yesterday). During the following half year I realized that I can live without this place (although it was hard at first). In that sense that half year was very important for me I think.

The last four and a half months at uni has also put things in perspective and made me realize even more that you have to have a REAL social life to balance out your life on the net. Although I had some wickedly awesome times here in the fall of 2004 it can't make up for meeting real people in real life. The best thing is of course if you can combine the two (winks at Wormstud, but turns out more like a guy with a serious blinking problem ).

I'm sure there are people here who are in a similar situation as I was in before. I saw my move to a new place as a golden chance for a fresh start and things have changed for the better. I mean before I never really talked to girls. Now I have a few awesome female friends and it feels great.

As for my lifestyle, as I have probably already mentioned at some point, I don't eat candy at all anymore and I try to work out regularly. It takes willpower and it's not always easy, but it's worth it at the end of the day.
Because this wasn't intended as an improve-your-lifestyle guide I'll stop now. When I start ranting I can't stop. See what this forum is doing to me!

Just want to add that I'm by no means thinking of leaving this place, I'll just never be as active as I were during the fall of 2004 ever again. I have both older and newer friends here and I want to stay in touch with you and this forum as a whole now as well as in the future, so you won't get rid of me just like that.

Since this is in chit chat and I started the thread I say to newbies and old farts (I guess that includes me these days ) alike: Post whatever AG and life related stuff you want! warning!

Even though I don't post much or read every thread, I still very much enjoy these forums. After all this time (I was, after all, one of the first three people to join the very first AG forums) this still feels like one of the most erudite and comfortably mellow places. There's very little sarcasm and screaming, a lot of intelligent people and niceness, but enough spike to prevent it from becoming too mushy. Yeah. I like this place.

I agree with Flux. I've always lurked these forums years before joining, I guess I thought this forum was like the AGS forum with so many users it gets a bit hectic. I used to frequent the SQN forums, and the AGS forums but I find it best when you just stick to one forum as your 'home' and just visite the other forums every now and again.

I love this place, great people and great conversations and not mention dedicated staff, I'ts great that all the mods and admins here are regular and are kind and friendly.

All I can say about this place is that I love it. I love the people, the staff, everyone is so nice and helpful, and although there are some heated debates, I never take any of that stuff seriously. I've had some great advice here about real life issues from a lot of the folks. You always have someone who listens to you, and who is willing to provide their help. And pretty much everyone here is of a totally different caliber than some of the people I meet at other forums. There has to be some IQ test I guess to join this place Overall this place has contributed a lot to my life, and I am very thankful for it, and the people who visit here.

You guys make up for the friends I don't have in real life...

That makes me sound suitably pathetic, right?
