Default What did you give to others on Christmas?

This is more fun than getting, especially when you know you are going to make someone happy. When I was younger I didn't care much for giving presents, and just wanted to get as much as possible, but now that I'm older I've learned to value friends and family.

I gave my mother a record by Daniel Barenboim, as she wished for that. For my dad I have a book about the history of the Creutz -family, and a bar of special chocolate (of which he was especially grateful, as he'd forgot to buy some for himself).

So, what about you?

One day my family will actually tell me what they want for Christmas rather than me having to ask lots of other people. My father got some extremely strong cutters, my mother a book, and my brother asked for some classic series Doctor Who DVDs. Mind you, my brother's present was hardly a difficult thing for me to buy, because I wanted to watch them too!

I also bought a large tin of sweets for the people at choir on Christmas day. This is something of a tradition.

Let's see, I got my mother-in-law some fancy teas and a necklace and my father-in-law a little photo wallet.

I got my own father a Hawaiin shirt and a big basket of snacks and my mother a tote bag and some earings.

For my hubby, I got him some clothes and the 12-DVD pack, the Boston Red Sox 2004 World Series Collector's Edition (all 7 ALCS games and the 4 World Series games).

Dad- A big book about Plymouth Barracudas and Dodge Challengers (We're both Mopar fans)
Stepdad- A very nice roadside emergency kit and heavy-duty floormats for his new truck.
Stepmom- A book about Alabama gardening (with planting times and specimen recommendations for our climate)
Aunt- A book about the history of church and cathedral architecture, including modern examples.
Uncle- A book about the history of Chevrolet trucks, of which he's had a bunch.
Cousins- Each got a gift certificate to Books-a-Million.
Yes, I'm a big believer in one-stop shopping, but I don't give anyone a book I wouldn't want myself. I had to really concentrate to keep from reading these books while I was wrapping them.
Mom- Arrrgh! She dropped big, fat, hairy hints at Thanksgiving that she wanted to go back to Reno for her combination birthday/Christmas present. This is what we did last year, and it worked out great for both of us. Then Christmas day she informs me she'd rather not go to Reno, and would rather save her money for another trip in a year that neither of us can afford right now.
*bangs head on desk*
So it's post-Christmas catch-up for Scott.

Good choices there, but I hope you've already got some Tom Baker stashed away! I like a bit of the old Sylv (especially as he's MY Doctor!) but you can't beat the classics

Ghost Light is a good Sylv DVD, by the way, even though it makes absolutely no sense - very sadly. Hope you like the "Director's Cut" of Fenric!

For my Mother: A Giantmicrobe of the species Salmonella (and a new marble rolling pin, because the old one has been repaired one too many times. Actually, she doesn't bake that much. But we all love cookies, and she agrees that there's nothing better than a rolling pin made of marble - They're heavy, and the cool stone prevents the dough sticking to it).

For my Father: A Giantmicrobe of the species "Yeast" (although it's called "Beer and Bread" on the label). My Fater drinks beer. Real beer. He's from Bavaria (more specifically, Oberfranken. He's the *only* Oberfranke who says of himself to be Bavarian, I think.), where they have the only *real* beer.

For my eldest Sister: A Giantmicrobe of the species "Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE)/Mad Cow Disease". My sister is in her last year of studying Veterinary Medicine.

For my middle Sister (and her boyfriend): A plush poseable Miss Piggy (from the Muppets), wearing a ballgown. My sister's favourite animal is pigs.

Also, I am going to send someone a large box of homemade cookies (have to stop myself from eating them all myself ).

Because I didn't know which one to give her, and I couldn't resist showing them to *someone* before Christmas.

Sadly I'm so pathetically poor these days. Instead of presents I sent e-cards to all my friends and family. And I managed to turn some of them into Hoops & YoYo fans.

Hopefully next year I'll have a bit of money and can give more generously.

Without meaning to sound trite, I suspect those were as happily received as any present; it shows that you were thoughtful despite difficulties .

I bought a book full of beautiful photographs of Hitler and his henchmen for my girlfriend.

I'm such a romantic soul.

The dead rat in a plastic bag wasn't good enough, then?

I can honestly say that I sent the dead rat to every girlfriend I have .

Yes, they were well received. As I always try to follow, one of the best things I must do to help myself feel a little better during sad moments in my life is to try and make others feel better.
