My brother was at one time in SPEBSQA(?) - the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.

I left primarily because the rehearsals were too late for me - till 11pm and I lived 45 min away. I had to be up at 5am for work. 5 hrs sleep just wasn't enough for me, shrug...

Singing barbershop is a lot of fun! The "girls" in my chorus are the hottest, most foul mouthed, most beautiful people in the world.
I sing bass so I´ll come over and we have a quartet. j/k.
I´m not sure I´m going to continue in the chorus. I´ve got too much in my life to think about. And even if singing is something really good when you´re feeling down, this chorus really works so hard for the competitions it´s like the premiere league of any sport! I can´t put in that much energy for the moment.

I agree - the competitions were really too much. We went from 1 to 3 rehearsals a week during the competition season, and we always scored terrible during them. We were so small that we never got a big enough sound to fill the huge auditorium that we held the competitions in. They expected a lot from amateurs, I felt.

I only have one sister left - the baritone, the others are dead, but even so, she and are are 1500 miles (2414 KM) away from each other now.

I did enjoy it, especially the weekends away for concerts and classes, and fun, but it was very time consuming.

Well, it's possible to perform the piece with something like an organ accompaniment, but the continuo part is traditionally played on a harpsichord. And you should should hear the whole of Messiah (or at least a performance of it, as there are different versions of many of the movements). There's a lot of music in it that, in my opinion, is much better than the Hallelujah Chorus .

Ahhh, the old 'I sang a Liza Minnelli song in the shower yesterday, but it was an accident', desperately trying to worm out of it I just sing along with whatever stuff comes on the radio, usually 80s cheese.

So, are we talking "Bizarre Love Triangle" or "I Want Candy"?

I tend to sing either Elvis or Roy Orbison songs in the shower, and sometimes I sing other people's songs in Elvis's or Roy's voice.

Is the "Mr. Smarty-Pants" you are referring to our very own Robbah?

That must be the best Finnish Eurovision contribution ever. I don´t care much for the monsters, but the song is good. Hopefully Finland gets more than 2 points this year.
