The Broken Sword Games
Okay so I have the last Broken sword game to be released for the XBOX and was curious about the other 2 games. Given that my pc may or may not play the pc versions of the first 2 games, would it be worth it to pick up the Playstation versions of the games? Is too much lost in the translation from PC to PSone for the games to still be good?

Why wouldn't your PC play them?
Both run fine on XP. I think PC versions are easier to find, too. Try eBay or Sold Out Software's website (sorry, too lazy to look up the link, but it shouldn't be hard to find). |

I played only the PS1 versions and there's nothing wrong with them.

The only difference between the PC and PSone versions are resolution (being higher on the PC as usual) and loading times (a LOT faster on the PC). That, and the fact that if you don't have a mouse for the PSone, you'll have to use a joypad, and since there's no direct control in these two games you'll have to control the pointer instead of the characters like in Broken Sword 3.
I much prefer the PC version (yes, I've tried them both), but they worked fine with a mouse on the PSone. |

ScummVM plays both BS1 and 2 and fixes a few bugs as well.

Both games are fine with XP. I am actually suprised how good BS1 was on gameboy advanced.

I found the PS versions of the BS games painfully slow because of Sony's crappy CD drive and the fact that the game is constantly loading every two seconds. I guess the PC versions were like that too, but nowadays playing Broken Sword via ScummVM (with some awesome filtering to make the visuals nicer) is a good way to go. Make sure to get the movie pack for BS1 if you're playing on ScummVM...

Okay, I'll bite, what is ScummVm and what does it do? Will it allow me to play games like Sam and Max which I own but will not run on my pc?

Yes it will, all the old 2d lucasarts games + Simon the Sorcerer + Revolution adventure games work quite perfectly on it.

Having learned about and how to use Scummvm and taking the advice given here, I did in fact purchase Broken Sword 1 and 2 for the PC. thanks for all who helped me with this task.

You shouldn't need to use Scummvm to play these games - as far as I know they work on every Windows system - I have played them on '95, '98 and XP |

And I now have it working through windows, thanks. So far entertaining and I enjoy Stobart's smart ass behavior.
