Default The black mirror

So i'm at chapter 3 and i am thinking yeah ok this game is good. Its like grabiel knight and broken sword combined with an englishman who is slighting annoying at times when he speaks. Ilike the story so far, i like the gameplay, i like the graphics and i like atmosphere.

There is something about it that makes it not amazing (at this point in GK i had lost 2 days somehow) but i cannot place my finger on it. What is it?

edit: scrap that its a cross between GK and syberia..

I am guessing that Black mirror 2 is better, ive got them all and intend playing them all (my summer project) but there is something about it do you know what i mean.

I'm also playing it right now and agree with the positives.

The main drawback is the backtracking. I recognize I need an item and see the hotspot, but I can't pick it up yet. You have to take your character 5 screens one way, try something, go back, get something, go back, work on the puzzle more, go back to get something else, etc. Just let me pick everything up at once.

Basically, the pace of the game feels too slow. I find myself reading dialogue subtitles and clicking through the speech to save time.

I completely agree with that, also is it me or do you think sometimes that some items would more use on another puzzle that the item you are supposed to use.

Spoiler:
Don't you just want your own chess piece knife

By the way where are you in the game.

I had quite similar feelings when I played the game years ago. It reminded me of Gabriel Knight but it's just not as good, something is missing. Still a better than average game and if it weren't that I happened to guess the ending I might have enjoyed it even more.

I was more impressed by the sequels. They might be a tad easy but they work very well. Engaging stories and smooth play. Still when I replay I will definitely pick up the first game in the bunch. If they did the first game with the same polish as the sequels it might have been something super.

Im sooo glad it was not just me. i've spent all day on it and finally finished the game.

This is major spoiler
Spoiler:
i feel cheated by the ending, i guessed it was him but he killed himself or so it appears interested to know what happens in 2 and 3. I found it was confusing why was everyone called by names thought they were family also the end.....nothing happened. We get there and we close it thats it end of the family line. by the way did i miss something what happened for him to go away for 12 years. What women died and who was his father.

In the end i feel cheated and confused.

@pointandcliklover, the abrupt ending is maybe the biggest controversy about "The Black Mirror", but the sequels compensate for this to some degree. As for your other questions, they will be answered aswell apart from the question who exactly was Samuel's father (IIRC). BTW, the fact that Samuel calls his grandmother "Victoria" rather than "granny" and his uncle "Robert" rather than "uncle", may seem a bit off, but I imagine it was the part of the distant and desolate atmosphere in "The Black Mirror", which not applies only to the locations but to the characters aswell.

I think they grew apart, so that's why he didn't call them by that.

@:imm8#2...i think i got the name right....

how are you doing on it..i admit i used a walkthrough at the end (don't shoot me) but i was wondering how you were getting on maybe we could play 2 at similar times.

BM2 is better, IMO, largely because it has a better variety of locations and is almost like two games over two halves. The first set in one place, the second set in a completely different place (as vague as I can put it without going into spoiler territory). Also a bit more user-friendly for people who might have found puzzles in the first easy.

Haven't played BM3 yet, waiting for a price drop, but how does it compare to BM1 and BM2 for people?

I appreciate the offer but my next month is pretty busy and I don't think I'll be gaming much.

Good luck! Let me know what you think of the game..

Fair dos. Just remember to pm me when you do get around to it, i alway like to hear what people on the first run through think. I find on reruns the games are different and so the view changes.
