Looking for games to add to my inventory
Hi. New here, so if I ask anything that offends, my humblest apologies. I love adventure games, but I keep investing in ones that are way too easy and played through in an hour. I was hoping that, instead of having to skim over hundreds of reviews, I could ask my fellow adventure game lovers what is worth spending some dough on. As far as recent games, I absolutely loved Machinarium, but I wish it was a little longer. Much farther back, Day of the Tentacle is my all-time favorite-- ridiculous amounts of inventory, sometimes not-so-obvious puzzle solutions, great humor, etc.
I've tried the research route, and ended up with short, easy games several times. I want to know what the players think. So, to sum it up: - Prefer games available on Steam (it's just easier, but by no means a requirement) - Need something with some LENGTH and DEPTH to it - Subgenre (comedy, horror) does not matter... I love it all - Don't worry about wondering what I've already played. I'll keep that to myself. - Some high level of difficulty would be nice - Doesn't need to be a new game I know there are plenty of gems out there that are shorter, but it's just a matter of preference. Please help! |

My favorite thing to say in these threads:
The Longest Journey!!!! Long game, immersive atmosphere, incredible dialogue, deep character development.

Thanks! I had played the demo and was feeling iffy on it, but I've been seeing a lot of positive reviews.
What else? |

Black Dahlia - FMV, long game, a bit like the Tex Murphy series but darker story, 1st-person, lots of dialogues, inventory puzzles and extremely hard stand-alone puzzles.
The Feeble Files - 3rd-person, fun game, one of the longest ever made, some very hard puzzles. The Neverhood - a must play for Machinarium fans. Great fun. Puzzles not very hard, except one or two. Dracula 3: The Path of the Dragon - recent game, very hard, 1st-person. Spycraft - unique puzzles Obsidian - Mystian puzzle game, fantastic surreal dream setting, a few very hard puzzles Discworld 1 - wonderful but crazy puzzles, long game, lovely world |

Or any of the other Myst games. |

I also second the shout for Dracula 3 if you are looking for good, but challenging games. Generally these kinds of threads are only useful if you actually give a bit more detail about what you like though |

I'd recommend Keepsake, it's got a very nice collection of challenging puzzles and a great story. the only flaws are a: terrible, terrible, terrible voice acting in one character, but that's only one character and you can read the subtitles and skip the speech. b: lots of walking around, but there is a built in map and it doesn't take too long to find your way around
