Oh gee, I think I'd have to be reminded again what all came out this year. I think Tales of Monkey Island would probably be my choice though.

For me, this is one tough question. This year was rich in the great new adventure titles; to tell the truth, I don't remember the year I've played more great new games than this one. Here are the games I've played this year so far:

Art of Murder: Hunt for the Puppeteer, Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis, Still Life 2, Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper, Return to Mysterious Island 2, Secret of Monkey Island SE, Memento Mori, Mata Hari, Machinarium, Tales of the Monkey Island and Runaway: The Twist of Fate (currently playing).

My top four of these are, without the doubt, Tales of Monkey Island, Secret of Monkey Island, Machinarium and Runaway: The Twist of Fate. But though I didn't finished it yet (yesterday, I've started the last chapter), I'm itching to put it on the adventure throne for this year.

When it comes to the games in general this year, my favourite is certainly Batman: Arkham Asylum. I've also played several hidden objects games, and must say that I even enjoyed playing Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove. In fact, this made me wanting to try some of the other games from this series as well.

Well, i haven't played many 2009 released adventures games. Between Memento Mori, Machinarium and Still life 2 I think memento is my favorite.

I'm not going to repeat what others already have mention but I would like to add Drawn The Painted Tower as a candidate for the best game of 2009 or at least one of the top five.

Isn't Drawn a casual game?

Yes, Drawn is a casual.
Let's not mistake casual games for adventures. And vice versa.
Yes, I feel very strongly about this issue.

Still a three weeks left of the year, but for now. Machinarium. That may change in just a few hours with the release of the ToMI season finale, though.

I know that this is a bit OT but could you elaborate that since I cant see any difference between the two besides the length of the game.

There's a huge difference my friend, I don't even know where to begin.

Casual games are usually aimed at a more commercial audience and are usually a lot easier.

Em, easier than what? ToMI or Still Life 2 or Mata Hari are hardly harder than Drawn. Let's exclude them too.

Erm, I find casual games to be easier than traditional adventure game, it's all relative anyway.

I think "easyness" and "length" hardly define casual games - at least today, when 80% of all adventures are as short and easy as Full Throtte or Rise of the Dragon. Oh, wait..
But seriously, casuality has something to do with monotonous gameplay and storytelling that doesn't interrupt its flow.

Can those talking about casual game vs. adventure game redirect your conversation to this thread. That way we can keep this one for talking about your favorite AG of 2009.

Thanks!

ToMI - without a doubt. I still haven't played a bunch of titles I've been dying to pick up, like Machinarium or Still Life 2, but I doubt ToMI could be dethroned.

Tales of Monkey Island and The Secret of Monkey Island - Special Edition.

These are the only 'new' adventures released this year that I've played.
