Adventure Game Club
Hi all... I was wondering if anyone was interested in starting up an adventure game club, kind of like a book club but with an adventure game. A bunch of us could all play the same game at the same time--maybe something that's one of those "I always meant to play it" kind of games--and then have a forum thread to talk about the game?
Anyone interested? Anyone have an idea for a game to start with? |

Welcome arrr_matey! We've had a few community playthroughs in the past. They are really fun and it'd be fun to do another one. It's nice to have someone lead the playthrough. But I suppose it could be organized any way that people who want to participate are comfortable with. I'll give you links to the playthroughs we've had in the past.

I would definitely be interested. I wanted to play through the last one (I think it was Jazz and Faust) but personal issues prevented me from doing so. I definitely want to join in the next one!

*Puts her hand up* I'd like to play along as well. I didn't get a copy of Faust in time for the last playthrough, so when I did get it, I would read through the old posts for each section as I played by myself. But the posts trailed off at the end, which was disappointing. I wished I'd been able to play at the same time, so I could have joined in. So yes, I'm interested!

Count me in!! I wanted to play Faust the last time, but I couldn't get it to work. A shame really, looked like a great game.

Melanie, the first link didn't seem to lead anywhere for me. Is it just my computer? |

Game ideas...
Here are some games I've been meaning to play for a while. Is anyone interested in playing these?
- Full Throttle - Normality - Paradise - Amber: Journey's Beyond Or have other suggestions? |

Full Throttle is the only one of those I've got (I had Normality once but no more. That sounds bad now I see it on the screen ) It's a good choice because it has several clear sections so everyone can play the same part quite easily.
I also seem to recall it being fairly easy to run on many systems.

It sounds like a great idea. I'll join in as long as I have access to the game.

I'm still secretly hoping that one day we'll be playing The Last Express together, it's a must play for all adventure gamers. But I wouldn't mind replaying Full Throttle with Ben and his beautiful Deep Voice! Or Amber, which is a great game too. Full Throttle will be a cinch to install and play on windows XP. It will probably be harder for most people to get Amber working, so my vote goes to Full Throttle.
PS: The Last Express has clear sections too. Very good game to play as a group. |

I'd consider joining in a Last Express playthrough.

Full Throttle would be cool. I have Paradise and played part of it but never finished so I would be down with that too. Though I think that in discussions regarding this type of play through, it was previously mentioned that it is best to play games that are broken up into chapters or acts so that there are stop points for discussion. |

The link doesn't take you anywhere. I did a search for community playthrough and tried to link to the search results page and it didn't work. I'm too lazy (actually working on a big project) right now to put up the individual links for each playthrough. Sorry.

Don't worry about it Mel. You get that project done.
Here are all the ones I could find. Can't find a number four (unless whoever set up Faust counted the Underground playthrough as number 4) Playthrough #1 - Beneath a Steel Sky Playthrough #2 - Gabriel Knight : Sins of the Father Playthrough #3 - Conquests of the Longbow Playthrough #5 - Faust : Seven Games of the Soul Underground Playthrough - 5 Days a Stranger

Thank you for all your efforts Stepurhan! I wish I was around back then to join in those games.

Having joined in with 5 Days a Stranger, Beneath a Steel Sky and Faust (which unfortunately petered out before the last chapter), I can say that the experience of playing a game with others is a lot more fun. I always get more out of it.
I'm replaying Black Dahlia with Jelena and enjoying having someone to bounce ideas off of, as well as working through difficult puzzles together.

I have Full Throttle and Paradise both unplayed, so they're my votes.

I know I ended up with my current position because Kurufinwe had other calls on his time. Hopefully he'll reappear soon.
