Default Good things come to people who wait

As I had figured, if one could wait until Sam and Max was released in retail stores one would reap big savings. I just picked up the Retail version in stores for $29.99 CDN, while Telltale still charges an exorbant 34.95 US, or 8.95 per episode. I know telltale gets way less of a % by selling retail, but for some reason they aren"t willing to sell at a legitmate price online (online distribution ought to be very very lost in cost, not cost more normal retail releases). I very much doubt telltale will smarten up at reduce costs for direct sales of Season 2 , so the lesson as usual is, wait until the retail stores get it, and SAVE A LOT.

Ugh.. I'm so tired of hearing people complaining about prices for GOOD adventure games nowadays. Do you realize how much adventure games used to cost? Not to mention the bigger hit titles of today... upwards $60 bucks. You are paying for a quality product. $35 is nothing for the whole season and extras.

Look on eBay if you want cheap. Or sign up for Gametap and play the whole season for really cheap. My goodness.

I share eriq's views on this matter completely.

You can take this logic much further if you want. What you should really do is to wait a few more years until a shop puts it on sale, or until it's available at a budget price. Because then it will be even cheaper!

The price of games is (almost) always relative to the time since release.

Oh, and the game doesn't cost so little everywhere. The retail price for the UK release seems to be hovering at around £24.99, which is a good $50 and is thus considerably more expensive than the Telltale edition. And it still hasn't been released over here.

If this were a big company like Ubisoft, EA, etc charging an extra $5 for an internet download then I'd complain.

But if a much smaller, independed company that thrives on just one or two series to keep the company going charges an extra $5 and it helps them keep making the kind of games I like playing, then that $5 is a well spent investment.

Although I would like to see my extra $5 go towards another Bone game or something completely new. I don't want another Sam & Max series. It's getting old now...

I don't understand how anyone could complain about $5 in the first place. It's the equivalent of £2.50, and I couldn't even buy a drink for that. $5 is negligible.

Terms like "exorbitant" and "A LOT" are utter hyperbole.

I will happily pay more than $19.95 for a good AG game, but I'm disappointed when I pay more and it doesn't put out. That's just a bad distributor decision.

I Think a lot of ppl seem to be missing the point. Yes it has been much later since the intial early release, so a price cut should be expected. But Now, It is still 34.95 US on the telltale website, yet retail it is 29.99 CDN. Telltale ought to be slashing their price if they want to keep more money to themselves, right now the consumer will purchase it from retail, while telltale loses out, I'm sure if they sold it for $25 online they"d end up with more cash in hand.

As for compairing prices to what they used to be, Thats not a proper comparison, ideally telltale wants to enter the mainstream gaming market, and not just retain the hardcore adventure fans who are willing to pay a lot. For instance Civ 4 Beyond the Sword retails for 29.99 CDN, WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT, thats the type of mainstream game that telltale is competing with, sure they"ll sell to the hardcore adventure fan at high prices, but the mainstream ppl who just want to play a good GAME, no matter the genre are price sensitive, and for digital distribution Telltale is just way way too high.

But you shouldn't look at both versions of Season One as if they are competing. Telltale wins either way. Plus look at Telltales version as more of a Bonus disc for the people who bought the games online back when they first came out.

If you wait 20 years S&M season 1 will have gone abandonware. Big savings ahead!

Beyond the Sword is an expansion pack, one that requires that you bought the main game beforehand. Add the cost of the main game, and you'd have a better comparison. You can't compare a full game to an expansion pack and complaint that the full game is more expensive.

Well, heck, that's what I do... I don't think I've ever bought a game on new release since the glory days of the Texas Instruments 99/4. Why pay £30 now when it's going to be £10 or even £5 in a few years?

Though I am drooling over Bioshock.

I'm fairly certain I could count the times I've purchased a full priced "new release" in one hand. I generally wait 2 or 3 years after release before buying a game, and that's if it's in a genre I like (Adventure and RPGs). I hardly ever purchase anything that costs more than $20, and sometimes, if it's something I really want, I go as high as $30. With online shopping it depends on S&H costs, but generally $15 is the highest unless we're talking about hard to get old games. $5 might not make any difference to some, but here it does.

Doublefine is still selling Psychonauts at full price of 40$, while one online store sold it for 5GBP not so long ago, yet I don't hear anyone complaining . Buy where you want, your choice, your money.
