GK1 works fine with DosBox. Grim Fandango works fine, but might require a patch for some (rare) crashing issue.

Well, I'm in for the Dig if anyone else is.
(GF is keyboard, and I've played GK1 fairly recently)

Kurufinwe: Heh! Well, thanks for the praise. The BaSS thread wasn't that time-consuming, though... just a matter of spending a few hours playing through the next section or so seeing where a good stopping point was (and I *still* haven't played the latest section... (pans self)) And I don't want to be, er, dictatoress... I must admit that whenever I personally come up with an idea I want people to run away with it and add their own thoughts to it (instead of just me controlling it). But enough of a philosophy session...
Commercial Games: I own all three of the most "popular" commercial game choices here, and I'm amenable to all of them. I'm especially kind of torn between GK1 and The Dig, though. On the one hand, I love GK1, it has a detailed story suited for discussion, and it's already broken up into easy sections. On the other hand, I'm tempted to do with The Dig what I did with BaSS... that is to say, choose an often underrated game to pick apart and see if it really deserves more credit. But I think I will say Gabriel Knight 1 for this thread, since it is in easier sections than The Dig, and since I haven't played the game all the way through with voices yet, and since I want to make a Death Scene list for it, too. Then after the GK1 thread is done we can do The Dig. Any objections from the peanut gallery? Amateur Games: I'll say that 5 Days a Stranger it is. Myst-Style games: This is all you folks, I'm afraid... the only Myst-style games I've played are Myst itself and Lightbringer, and I didn't enjoy either of them, to be honest. So if there's anyone who wants to volunteer as thread custodian, you'd know better than I would which of the suggestions would work for the discussion. Peace & Luv, Liz

Could someone fill me in on 5 Days a Stranger? I've checked through PAGODA and was unable to find a review.

It's a very atmospheric and quite short amateur adventure, where you play a guy that gets himself locked in a house with some other people. It's 3rd person, inventory and dialog based (mostly dialog, but they aren't long, so have no fear), and it's not that easy.

Sounds intriguing. I'll give it a go if others do.

Definitely ready for 5 days a Stranger. I'll try to free up enough time to join the GK1 chat as well. (Got the Mysteries boxed set somewhere)

I'll go find the patch... Unless someone already posted it? (Edit): Here it is: http://forums.adventuregamers.com/sh...ight=GK1+patch I'm excited about the GK1, as for some diabolic reason I did not finish it when I played it last... Last edited by UPtimist; 01-20-2006 at 10:26 AM. |
