Default Christmas present

Thanks Adventure Gamers, for my first christmas present ever! I live in Holland and we have Sinterklaas here, so normally we don't do christmas presents. But the game looks great! It only crashed twice in 5 minutes
I've got no time to play it now because I have to get dressed before my parents come home from church...

Have a very nice christmas everybody!

Nice Syberia reference.

Ps. Is the main character "geek" based on anyone in the Adventuregamers.com staff?

This game lacks some very basic features, such as a couple of hundred AI-controlled passers-by, an open GTA-like 3D world, mo-cap body acting, and a rubber-band story with playable cutscenes.

What a rip-off.

This is fun! But is it normal that the character no longer says anything when I click the mitten on the "Brown pffering"?

It's not a bug. It's a feature.

Those are in the upcoming commercial version. You don't get everything for free!

Yes, that's part of the game's unique charm. (Okay, no it isn't.) But...

Spoiler:
It works properly if you don't restore power before fixing the tree.

What do you mean? AG is an adventure game company now. You probably mean one that actually pays money 'n stuff... yeah, that'd be nice.

Probably all of us.

BTW, I hope everyone's trying all the various options at every stage. The comments about objects should change (almost) every time you do something new with them. We reward investigation! And remember to everything. It's AG tradition.

Whoops, missed this originally. First of all, um... happy Sinterklaas, then! (A few weeks late, I believe, yes? But better late than never.)

Sorry to hear about the crashes. That's news to me. There's a Setup file in the directory where the game unzips, so try some tweaks there.

I'd be interested in some, uh, post-mortem information.

How many people were involved in the making of this? How long did it take you from first concept to finisihed game? How many lines of dialog? Who did the introductory voice?

edit: As you can tell from my questions, I haven't seen the credits roll yet - I'm stuck.

Sorry, Martin. No way around finishing the game. If you want credits, you need to earn it.

There are 10 people listed as primary contributors, though as you know, contributions come in various shapes and sizes, so plenty more people factored in support roles.

Unfortunately, our credit list didn't include our narrator. So we'll consider that a supplementary game of "guess the voice". The only clue is: it's a member of AG staff. But since it's Christmas, I'll give an extra hint: it's not Emily.

First concept came LAST year, but we all stood around like deer in the headlights at the prospect until it was too late. This year, we started kicking tires in mid-November. Nothing actually happened until early December. So the entire game was pretty much made in last-minute panic mode. REAL "last minute" included something akin to hysteria. I've blocked out the trauma already, so I can't say much more about it.

As for lines of dialogue, rough count is 150 separate comments. Not all of them made it into the game, though most did (maybe 8 or 10 were left out). Plus, of course, the intro and a lengthy ending that people who AREN'T stuck already know about.

Ah, but you did an excellent job of talking me down off the ledge on Friday.

To follow up on some of Jack's answers, we had a rough design the first week in December. The script and most assets were completed by the 18th, and implementation and testing took place this week... mostly on the 23rd and 24th.

We wouldn't have been able to pull the game together without help from some non-AG staff members, to whom I am eternally grateful.

The intro voice (whose owner I won't reveal until we get some guesses ) was recorded Friday night in a frenzy of last minute "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if..." inspiration.

So, Martin, still stuck?

I trust you will include those in the Special Edition
