Your Favourite Underdogs
A few years ago, Just Adventure published the "Top ten games (almost) no one has played" list. A bit bizarre list if you ask me - it included well-below-average 'Pilgrim' for instance.
Anyway, what are your beloved gems (and I mean real gems not just good games) that never got the attention they deserved? I'd nominate 'Riddle of Master Lu' and 'Death Gate', both truly outstanding adventures (IMHO) from mid-1990's. Anyone played those?

Riddle of Master Lu is definately on my list, along w/ Future Wars and Eternam which were totally overshadowed by the Sierra adventures at the time.

Don't know if they qualify as underdog games, though. --Erwin

The Journeyman Project games are gems. I particualrly like number three. They're seldom mentioned here, though.

I loved Duckman...you're the first person I've heard mention that game in a long time.

I would definately say Black Dahlia.
I've played A LOT adventures and black dahlia is on the top of my favorites list along with Grim fandango, sanitarium and the longest journey. I think it really should be a classic. If the tex murphy series are classic i don't see why black dahlia shouldn't. I like the story much better on black dahlia than in pandora directive. I believe the main reason people ignored it or didn't liked it are the puzzles. Some difficult myst-like puzzles and a couple impossible to solve maybe ruined the game for people that just wanted to have some fun and didn't have patience. But the story totally makes up for it. I strongly recommend it. Toonstruck was also one very good adventure i haven't heard of it much until i played it. |

I don't think Black Dahlia can really be considered an underdog. It is quite famous and makes many sites' "All Time Greats" list.
I'd agree with Toonstruck. Problem is getting it to play on your computer. I enjoyed Duckman, but it really lacked the edge of the cartoon's humor. I think the Journeyman Project games are likely too famous to be considered underdogs. Heck, they even reissued the first one in a "turbo" version and the entire series in a trilogy pack. GREAT games, though. And Colpet and I are well-known to have identical tastes in games, so you know that anything Colpet recommends gets my seal of approval too, though I had mixed feelings about Secrets of the Luxor.
