Sherlock Holmes:Case of the Rose Tattoo and WinXP
Is it possible to get this game to work on XP? I can play the game up until the section where I track down a man to some Inn. There's a Hackney carriage outside and I have to talk to the driver to get in. Every time I do so, the game crashes to desktop. I had tried restarting in case I had a corrupted game, but the same result.

Maybe if you read through this setup you will find something useful.
http://home.earthlink.net/~infernofi...ttoo_Setup.htm I hope you can get it sorted. |

I installed the DOS version under DOSbox and it ran fine. Don't see why you need to try anything different, unless you haven't discovered the joys of DOSbox yet...

Same problem but at the different spot. It's at the beginning when I try to disolve the chain. What do I have to do? I am so desperate! :`(

I've never used Abandon Loader or Dos Box, so I'm afraid that might be the problem.

I got Abandon Loader and now it works fine! Whee... It's totally harmless and helpful.
I recommend you people (with problems because of the game) to do the same.

I have a 610 mb "Sherlock_Holmes.iso" file. Can anybody explain stepwise how i can install this rose tattoo game using that abandon loader and get it to work.
I had this game's RIP and that game worked very slow for me in dosbox due to low RAM (512mb). tried everything, even control F12 etc. so downloaded a cd image of this game. but still the game wont install or work independantly. |

Wait a minute... sherlock holmes case of rose tattoo is up for download on HOTU underdogs site and many other legal abandonware/freeware sites. So i thought this game is abandonware. Even i dont believe in warez.

Abandonware isn't clearly legal.

If you look at the HOTU site FAQ, you'll find that the whole concept of abandonware is a very fuzzy area, often the copyrights to the games are still owned by the original publishers unless they choose to release them into the freeware market. An instance of a legal one would be the Freespace Open Source project, but most of the HOTU is not in any way legal.

Abandonware is Illegal. well i am a simple gamer and that is news to me.
But anyways the cd version or the rip version of this game on these abandonware sites dont work and so most people who know this probably wont buy the original game cd thinking that it wont work anyway. Is somebody still willing to help me get this game to work on my PC without dosbox? |

I have a similar problem in SH:CotRT and would also like some help on how to run the game in Abandon Loader - atm when I try create the profile the program doesn't seem to add the .alg extension and when I add this manually it doesn't recognise the file.
Could someone give me a quick step-by-step how to on this? Yes I do have a legally purchased copy of the game (and I remember even when I first bought it - it was unreliable and would often crash.) Thank-you. EDIT: Ok I have managed to make it run directly from the CD but it still crashes at the same point (showing keys or card to doorman at Mycroft's flat). I have tried lowering the CPU speed but to no avail. Has someone achieved settings in AL that work? Last edited by Tortexia64; 07-01-2007 at 10:20 AM. |

I played this game w/ DosBox and using the command prompt. Strangely I found that the command prompt worked just fine (even better than Dos Box-though I'm still learning how to tweak DB).
