Default SWON - Lucasarts

So Secret Weapons Over Normandy is finally here.

And everything what I feared is featured in the final game.

not so promising, but I think at least the demo is worthy for checking it out.

I don't get the idea, that Holland's crew left the multiplayer out of the pc version...

I played the demo yesterday. It was fun. Nice and simple, just how I like combat flight simulators. Not that I've played one since TIE Fighter (oh man, what a great game)... I thought it was kind of cool that "T" is Air Target, just like it was in TIE Fighter (God knows how I remember that). I guess T for Target isn't too hard. Anyway, what the hell am I talking about? Demo was fun, I'd considering buying the full game if I had even close to enough money to buy the few current games I already have on my list.

Well, you were talking about the letter T for a little while, then, uh, well, I gave up.

I played the demo through today.
I still feel this is Larry Holland's first bad game.

The checkpoint save system was a little bit weird, but I guess it's ok for an flight action game.

The flight model was a really really arcade one. I didn't like it that much, although I had to play with the keyboard (because my WinXP doesn't want to recognize my joystick or gamepads ) so it would've been interesting to try it out with a joystick.

It was strange when two planes collided, they just bounced off from each other. Ynh...

Target health meter, now that is something I'd love to be able do turn off from the options.

The plane graphics were good enough.

The historical newsreel cutscene in the demo was good looking.

I played the demo a few days ago. Overall it seemed like a good game. I really liked the instant replay feature especially because of the unsteady camera. The graphics and music are good. I'm a bit disappointed that there is no cockpit view because that's my favorite view in flight sims. Oh well, not a big problem. The gameplay is far from realistic, rather it's an arcade game. Still very fun though. Reminds me a bit of Crimson Skies.

That's the point, really. In july, they stressed that it wasn't supposed to be a flight sim, but rather an air combat sim. The game's not built for people who want total control over flaps and whatnot, it's built for people who want to shoot stuff down.

That's pretty much how Holland's games have always been, and I for one greatly prefer it to the traditional flight sim model. I mean, come on, you guys remember TIE Fighter right? Also known as the best space game ever?

Well, exactly, it is fun and that's what matters. But I understand why some are disappointed because I think the original WW2 flight sims that Holland made were more realistic, but then again I never played them so I can't really say.

I'm inclined to agree. You'd be amazed how incompetent I am at serious flight sims. God forbid anyone ever try to teach me to fly an actual aircraft

Yeah, I remember Tie Fighter, and X-wing also. I own copies of those games in their great looking boxes, though I haven't played them in years.

But I expected something little more realistic this time, because this time we are handling a ww2 plane, not a x-wing or tie fighter...
